5.1. Sobre la familia y sus generalidades 1 ¿Qué es la familia?
Table 4.1 and Table 4.2 show the socio-demographic characteristics of the student-respondents and the facilitator-respondents respectively. In the Tables, responses of the NOUN and OAU students and facilitators on their characteristics are presented in different columns respectively.
Total number of 93 NOUN students' and 89 OAU students' responses were analysed. Total number of 13 and 14 responses were analysed from NOUN and OAU facilitator-respondents.

Table 4.1 shows that in NOUN, 46.2% were females, 49.5% were males and in OAU, 69.8%
were females, 30.2% were males. The age distribution shows that 60.4% of the NOUN respondents were between the ages of 16 and 25, 29.7% were between the ages of 26-35, 4.4%
were between the ages of 36-45, 3.3% were between the ages of 46-55, and only 2.2 were between the ages of 56-65. Meanwhile in OAU only 15.9% were between the ages of 16 and 25, 60.2% fell within the 26-35 bracket, 18.2% were between the ages of 36-45, 5.7% were 46-55, and none was between the ages of 56-65. Summarily, an average NOUN student was 26.2 years old while their counterpart in OAU was 31.8. In NOUN, 79.6% of the respondents were single, 20.4% were married and in OAU, 57.0% were single, 43.6% were married. In NOUN, 72.6% of the students had no child, 16,1% had 1-2 children, 9.7 had 3-4 children, 1.6% had 5 or more children but in OAU, 47.5% had no child, 28.8% had 1-2 children, 20.3% had 3-4 children and 3.4% had 5 or more children. In other words, while only 28.1% (25) of NOUN students were parents 52.8% (47) of OAU students were parents.
On their employment status, 40, 32, 4 and 16 of the respondents in NOUN were unemployed, self-employed, civil servants and private sector employees respectively and in OAU, 10, 20, 26 and 33 were unemployed, self-employed, civil servants and private sector employees respectively. This means that as high as 43.0% of NOUN student-respondents were not working but o only 11.2% of OAU students were not working. In Noun, 34.9% had SSCE/NABTEB as their highest qualification, 3.5% had NCE; 19.8% had ND, 3.5% had HND, 21.1% had Bachelor’s degree, 11.6% had Master’s degree and 6.7% had other qualifications. In OAU, only 2.2% had SSCE/NABTEB, 61.0% had NCE, 5.6 % had ND, 11.2 HND, 11.2 had Bachelor’s degree, 2.2% had Master’s degree, 6.7% had other degrees. For NOUN, respondents from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences made up 18.3% of the population, 11.8% from Faculty of Education, 48.4% from Faculty of Management Sciences, 21.5% from Faculty of Science and Technology and for OAU, 77.5% were from Faculty of Education, 20.2% were from Basic Medical Sciences, and 2.2% were from Administration/Management Sciences.
From NOUN, 18.6% were 100 level students, 28% in 200 level, 34.4% in 300 level, 16.1% in 400 level and 12.9% were postgraduate students. Meanwhile from OAU, 5.6% were in 100 level, 44.9% in 200 level, 47.2% in 300 level, and 2.2% in 400 level. More than have of the NOUN students (55.9%) said they were being sponsored by their parents or guardians, 38.7%
were self-sponsored, 1.1% were sponsored by employer and 4.3% were sponsored by their spouses but in OAU, 76.4% were self-sponsored, 1.1% were on scholarship, 3.4% were sponsored by their spouses and 19.1% by parents or guardian. In both NOUN and OAU, only 1.1% of the respondents were physically challenged.

As showed in Table 4.2, from NOUN, 61.5% were males, 38.3% were females and from OAU, 38.5% were males, 61.5% were females. On the age of the respondents, from NOUN, 30.8%
were within the age bracket of 26-35, 53.8% within 36-45, 15.4% within 46-55 and from OAU, 14.3% were within bracket 26-35, 35.7% were within 36-45, 21.4% within 46-55 and 28.6%
were within 56-65. On the marital status of the respondent, from NOUN 8.3% were single, 91.7% were married, while in OAU, none of the respondents was single and 100% were married. On their highest educational qualifications, facilitators from NOUN, 23.1%, 46.2%, 30.8% had Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees respectively while from OAU, 7.1%, 28.6%, 57.1% had Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees respectively. From NOUN, 23.1%
of the respondents had 1-5years working experience, 38.5% had 6-10, 15.4% had 11-15 years, 15.4% had 16-20, 7.7% had 21-25. Likewise, from OAU, 7.1% had 1-5 years of working experience, 50% had 6-10 years, 21.4% had 16-20, 7.1% had 21-25, 7.1% had 31-35 years and 7.1% had 35 years of working experience.
Further, the Table shows the distributions of the facilitators across some faculties in the two institutions. Facilitator-respondents from NOUN indicated they are in social sciences (22.2%), education (44.4%), management (22.2%) and science and technology (11.1%) while facilitators-respondents from OAU were found across social sciences (16.7%), arts and humanity (25.0%), education (41.7%) and basic medical sciences (16.7%). Also, 38.5% of the NOUN respondents are academic staff, 46.2% are administrative staff and 15.4% are counsellors. Their counterparts from OAU were academic staff (78.6%) and administrative staff (21.4%). It should be noted that a couple of the facilitators in both institutions are involved in both academic and administrative processes.
