Find yourself a comfortable position sitting upright in a chair with your feet flat on the floor, legs uncrossed, back resting gently against the back of the chair, arms unfolded resting lightly on your thighs, with palms facing up. Take a deep cleansing breathe in through your nose to the count of four. Exhale through your mouth to the count of eight and as you exhale relax your mind. Take another deep breath and inhale healing energy and as you exhale relax your body. Now allow your breath to be effortless and automatic.
Take a few moments to relax your body. Start by focusing on your toes. Notice what’s there. Fill your toes with warmth and loving kindness. Then focus on your legs including your calves and shins, knees, thighs. Again just notice what’s there and send gentle and loving thoughts to your legs. Now focus on your bottom. Notice any tension that may be stored here and let it go. You just don’t need it. Let it flow down your thighs, through your knees, through your calves and shins to your feet, right through the ends of your toes and onto the floor. Now bring your awareness to your abdomen and stomach area. Again, just notice what’s there and allow anything that needs to go to flow out with every breath. Now pay attention to your back including your lower back, mid-back, upper back, and shoulders. Lots of stuff gets carried here and you just don’t need any of it. Let it flow down through your bottom, through your legs, through your feet, right through the ends of your toes and onto the floor.
Now focus on your chest area including your lungs and heart. Intentionally inhale and fill your lungs with a cushion of healing energy. As you exhale, release anything that needs to go. Imagine you are breathing in through your heart. As you do this, imagine a feeling of appreciation or gratitude. Allow this feeling to flow into your heart and from there throughout the rest of your body. Now focus on your arms and hands. Notice what’s there and let go of anything that needs to go. Let it flow from your shoulders down your upper arms, your elbows, your wrists, your hands, and right through the ends of your fingers and onto the floor. Now pay attention to your neck and throat. Inhale and fill this area with healing energy and feel a gentle release as your exhale. Now place your tongue on the bottom of your mouth behind your teeth and relax your jaw. Let it drop and hang down, totally relaxed. Raise your focus to your face including your cheeks, your eyes, and your forehead. Tighten all these muscles. Scrunch them up, tight, tight, tight. Then release the tension. Feel the difference between tense and relaxed. Now focus on your scalp from your forehead and ears all the way up and over and down to the base of your scalp at your neck. Again, just notice what’s there and let go of anything that needs to go. Now take a deep cleansing breath and fill your entire body and head with a cushion of healing energy. As you exhale, let go of anything that still needs to go. Let go of it. You just don’t need it.
Now imagine a white light shining down from above into the crown of your head, filling your head and body with healing energy, going down your neck and throat and down your spine vertebrae by vertebrae. As it flows down, it shines out in front of you as far as you can see and out behind you and beside you as far as you can see. It flows down through your legs and right through the bottoms of your feet into the earth. As it fills you, it warms, cleanses, clears, and heals. It connects you to the universe and to the earth all at the same time. It connects the within with the without, and with creation.
As your body is enjoying this peaceful, relaxed feeling, imagine that you are walking along a path. You come to a garden gate which has been left open for you. You enter the garden, close the gate behind you, and find a comfortable place to sit down amongst the beauty and peace of the garden. You close your eyes and go within.
You set your intention to connect with and communicate with your intuition. You focus your awareness on what arises from this calm, quiet place inside you. You might imagine a blank white board in front of you. If you have a question you need answered, write it on the board and wait for an answer. If you don’t have a question, just sit quietly. In either case pay attention to any thoughts, feelings, mental pictures, body sensations, smells, sounds, colors, or memories that arise. Allow contact with your inner knowing. Tune in. Notice if anything gets written on the board for you. Ask for guidance if you want it. Ask for signs that help you connect with inner wisdom and intuition. Then relax and wait. Just be. If your mind wanders, just bring it back to your intention to connect with your intuition.
Wait patiently, watch, and listen. Stay alert to what is presenting itself to you. Pay attention and trust that you are receiving exactly what you need to know right now.
2-Minute Silence (Note: Vary length of this silent period as appropriate.)
Now that you have connected with your intuition and received important messages and guidance, be grateful that you are getting better and better about being mindful of your intuition. Slowly stand up in the garden and walk quietly toward the gate. Open it, walk through, and leave it open as you found it. Walk along the path and return to this room, bringing the peace and wisdom you found in the garden with you. You can open your eyes when you are ready.
THEORY: Being able to tap into intuition appears to be an innate skill, but it is often ignored.
Journaling about how intuition displays itself and how to tune into it more effectively will help the client be increasingly aware of intuitive messages and to learn to trust them.
IMPLEMENTATION: Ask your client to answer the journal prompts in Handout 14-3.
PROCESSING: Review your client’s answers and process what came up for them during their journaling. Explore how intuition plays a role in their life. Examine how their intuition communicates with them. Discuss how the Mindfulness of Intuition tools have increased their ability to tune in to their intuition.
