Good Morning everyone, my nam e is Mrs. Frederickson and I have come to th e class today becau se I am carrying o u t a special project. My project is a b o u t how children of your age get along w ith each o th er a t school an d I would like you to help me with my project by filling in a couple of easy questionnaires. T here are no right or wrong answ ers, you ju s t have to p u t w hat you think. You don’t have to do any writing, you ju s t have to circle an d tick things. So you will need a pen or pencil, h a s everyone got a p e n or p encil?
Now I need 3 volunteers. In a m inute I w ant you (child A) to give o u t one of these questionnaires to every girl in the class an d bring me back the spares, I w an t you (child B) to give out one of these questionnaires to every boy in th e class an d bring me back the spares and I w an t you (child C) to give out one of th ese sh eets of b lan k paper to everyone in th e class. Everyone else 1 w an t you to cover over yo u r questionnaire w ith your sh eet of b lan k p a p er an d get ready to listen to w hat you have to do next, do not look a t y o u r questionnaire until I tell you.
(Praise children for listening well and doing w h at they were asked to do). OK you can now look a t the first sheet of your questionnaire and you wül see th a t it h a s got th e nam es of everyone in th is class in the order they come in th e register. I am going to read out each nam e in tu r n and I w an t you to follow with your finger on the questionnaire.
Did I read everyones nam e ? Put up your h an d if your nam e h a s been m issed off th e list.
W hen you are doing y o u r questionnaire if you c a n t m ake o u t any of th e nam es ju s t p u t u p your h an d and I will tell you who it is.
T hese q u estio n n a ire s a sk ab o u t how you get along w ith o th er people a t school an d I know th a t th is is quite a private thing, so I will careful to keep y o u r q u estio n n aires private. The q u estionnaires only have first n a m e s on th em to keep th em private. W hen I collect yo u r questionnaires in I will n o t show them to anyone else. I will take them b ack to my office an d p u t th em together w ith all th e questionnaires from th e o th er classes a n d schools so th a t I can see w h at sorts of things children of y our age feel ab o u t how th ey get along w ith each other a t school.
So I am going to be keeping your q u estio n n aires private an d it is very im portant th a t you keep them private as well. There is no need for anybody to be talking ab o u t w hat they are putting, no need for anybody to be looking a t their neig h b o u r's questionnaire to see w h at they are pu ttin g or no need for anybody to be letting o th er people see w h at th ey are p u ttin g . % u can u se y o u r sheet of blank paper to keep your questionnaire private. % u can also u se it like a ruler to keep you straig h t w hen you are working through th e questionnaires. Also a t th e end I will a sk you to draw me a picture on th e b lan k paper showing me w hat you like to do b est of all during b reak time a t school. Some people draw football or skipping or talking with th eir friends or some game they like to play. If you have a little bit of tim e in between th e questionnaires you can sta rt your picture while you are waiting to go on to th e next one.

If you look down the side of this page you will see th a t it h a s got th e nam es of everybody in th is class. Now if you look across the top it says, "How m uch do you like to play w ith each person a t school". Opposite each p erso n 's nam e th ere are four little circles. The second circle h a s got a sm iling face an d you are going to tick th a t circle if it is the nam e of somebody who you like to play w ith a t school. The third circle h a s got a straig h t-m o u th ed face and you are going to tick th a t circle against the nam es of people if you don't m ind w hether you play w ith them or not. The last circle h a s got a sad face an d you are going to tick th a t circle if it is the nam e of someone who you prefer not to play with a t school. We all have different people th a t we like to play with a t school, th a t we don't m ind w hether we play w ith th em or not a n d th at we prefer not to play with. The first circle h a s got a question m ark in it and you are going to tick th a t circle if it's th e nam e of som eone who you don't know well enough to decide how m uch you like to play w ith th em a t school.

If it is someone you like to play w ith a b it you would circle th e 4. If it is som eone th a t you don’t really m ind if you play w ith them or n o t you would circle the 3. If it is som eone you feel a b it th a t you don’t like to play with you would circle the 2. If it is som eone you don’t like to play with you would circle the 1.

If you look down the left h an d side of th is page you will see th a t it h a s got the nam es of everybody in this class. Now if you look across th e top it says, “G uess W ho”. I am going to read o u t som e descriptions of people a n d you have got to g u ess who, o u t of th e people in y o u r class, it m ight be a description of. For exam ple, supposing I read o u t th e d escrip tio n "this person is really good a t sport, they are a wizard footballer" w h at you would have to do is look down the nam es of everybody in your class an d p u t a tick against th e nam e of anyone who you th in k fits the description. Now I don't know, m aybe th ere is one p erso n in th is class th a t you th in k fits th a t description, th e n you would have one tick; maybe th ere are five people in this class who you th in k fit th a t description, th en you would have five ticks and maybe you th in k th a t there isn 't anybody a t all in th is class th a t fits th a t d e scrip tio n a n d th e n you w o u ld n 't have any tick s.
