A SUMMARY OF:
SAVINGS WITHDRAWAL
&
TRANSFER LIMITSRegulation D HOW FEDERAL REGULATION DAFFECTS YOU:
Federal Regulation D, Reserve Requirements, limits the number of transfers that are permitted on savings accounts. These limits may prevent preauthorized withdrawals, Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions and overdraft transfers between savings and checking from clearing your
account. This brochure contains important information on when withdrawal and transfer limits affect your account, plus strategies to help manage them.
IN GENERAL:
A savings account may have up to six transfers and withdrawals per calendar month made to
another account or to a third party.
After six per month, additional transactions may be rejected and fees assessed.
No more than three of the six transfers may be made by check to a third party.
SAVINGS TRANSFER LIMITS:
The following information categorizes the type of transfers from a savings account that would or would not be covered towards the six transfer limit per month.
TRANSFER &WITHDRAWALS LIMITED TO SIX PER MONTH :
ACH withdrawals from savings (preauthorized Electronic Funds Transfers)
Transfers from one account or share to another account or share
Automatic transfer to cover overdraft or maintain minimum balance in another account
Telephone, Home banking and other data transmission transfers
Any combination of the above transactions are regulated to six per month
UNLIMITED TRANSFERS OR WITHDRAWALS:
In-person, night drop or mail transactions
ATM withdrawal or transfer to another account or share
Automatic debit to make loan payment to same institution
Transfer of interest earned to another account
STRATEGIES TO HELP MANAGE SAVINGS WITHDRAWAL AND TRANSFER LIMITS:
Do not authorize anyone to make ACH withdrawals from your savings accounts. Instead set
up the withdrawal from your checking account which has unlimited ACH withdrawals.
Set up Great Basin Federal Credit Union’s Overdraft Line of Credit as a primary overdraft
source. Transfers from a line of credit are not regulated.
Balance your checking account periodically. This will help limit the number of non sufficient
funds transfers from your savings account.
Plan ahead and make one large transfer instead of several small transfers. Each regulated
transfer counts as one transaction, no matter the amount.
