Gasunie, Hanzehogeschool and TNO join forces to develop renewable energy systems as part of the Energy Valley initiative. The three organisations agree to work with various partners to develop and exchange knowledge, promote innovation and train students. This will contribute to the natio- nal energy transition target and the knowledge economy, and tie in closely with the development of the northern Netherlands as an energy region.

GTS begins selling gas on the APX gas exchange for the first time. This marks the start of the daily purchase and sale of gas on the APX day-ahead market by GTS. The purchase and sale of gas on this exchange is an extra means for keeping the gas transport network in balance, which is a statu- tory task of GTS.

February

At Eastermar (Oostermeer), a 48-inch pipeline section is laid under the De Lits canal and the Sumarderwei using guided horizontal drilling. At 1,006 metres, it is one of the longest horizontal boring operations of the GWWL project. A total of eleven guided horizontal drillings are carried out during the project.

Two boring towers are installed at Zuidwending, to drill four salt caverns. The operation takes approximately a year to complete. Once the drilling has been completed in one location, a start is made on leaching.

March

In a letter of 29 March 2007, the Minister of Economic Affairs outlines the new regulatory frame- work for gas transport to the House of Representatives of the Dutch parliament. This adjustment makes possible an investment decision for large-scale expansions of the transport network (€ 1.1 billion). These expansions are designed to strengthen the network to facilitate new gas flows which will contribute to market function and security of supply.

Gasunie adopts sustainability as a permanent element in its strategy. We begin using this strategy to promote the transition to a renewable energy supply. As the cleanest fossil fuel, natural gas plays an important role in this transition phase.

On 1 October, EnergieNed, the federation of energy companies in the Netherlands, establishes the Association of Energy Network Operators in the Netherlands (Enbin). GTS is represented on the board.

The Minister of Economic Affairs, Maria van der Hoeven, and the Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, Jacqueline Cramer, sign an energy agreement on emission reduction with the Energy Valley provinces of Drenthe, Friesland, Groningen and North Holland.
