Agency description: The JJC was established in 1995 to lead the reform of the juvenile justice system in the State of New Jersey. Its three primary responsibilities are the care and custody of juvenile offenders committed to the agency by the courts, the support of local efforts to provide services to at-risk and court-involved youth, and the supervision of youth on juvenile parole.

Agency description: Organization for Recovery, Inc. was founded in July 1997 as a private, non-profit treatment program primarily designed to treat opioid addiction in individuals 18 years and older. Located in Plainfield, Organization for Recovery, Inc. has since expanded to meet service gaps for other outpatient treatment needs, including drug-free treatment, in the surrounding communities.

Internships available for: Anyone currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree for social work or counseling; clinical hours towards becoming a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor

Requirements: If the candidate is deemed appropriate following an interview with our Clinical Supervisor, a physical, drug screen and background check is required. If all is in

order, a two-day orientation period will be provided prior to the commencement of the internship.

Three internships per semester are available. Students may stay for up to two semesters unless seeking more hours towards certification.

Agency description: Steps Recovery Center at Muhlenberg provides services focusing on the needs of drug or alcohol-dependent patients and their families. The Center is staffed by licensed

counselors working under the medical direction of a

psychiatrist. Outpatient treatment services include day and evening programs, individual and group therapy, family and co-dependency services, psychiatric evaluations and consultations, relapse prevention and follow-up care. A holistic approach to treatment is taken at the Center, which integrates the 12-step philosophy of Alcoholics and

Narcotics Anonymous. Comprehensive detoxification programs, such as outpatient partial hospitalization and inpatient detoxification, also are available.

Agency description: Summit Oaks Hospital, one of the longest standing private

psychiatric and chemical dependence centers in New Jersey, has been serving the Northeast region since 1902. The facility includes a 126-bed hospital and an outpatient counseling center. Children, adolescents and adults receive quality care

Internships available for: Any student interested in learning about addiction/mental health field in general; clinical supervision for specific clinical hours (LCSW or Certified Alcohol and Drug

Education level to start: Bachelor’s degree or in the process; person seeking clinical hours towards their certification

Requirements: Call to set up an interview; background check and urine drug test required.

Two to four internships per semester are available. Students will be evaluated after that time period.
