If you are considering changing careers, re-entering the job market, or seeking the necessary postsecondary and skills training to enter the job market for the first time, this program is your first step to the future. This highly flexible program is designed to meet the individual needs of adult students.

Individual timetables and courses of study are developed to accommodate the student’s training needs and personal schedule. The program has a continuous intake that runs 12 months a year and offers classes during days and evenings. You will have an opportunity to develop productive study habits, to practice speaking more effectively, and to learn employability skills like critical thinking, team-building, and problem-solving skills that employers are seeking.

Entrance Certificate

Don’t have a grade 12 diploma? Don’t let this hold you back from employment and educational opportunities: The Academic and Career Entrance Certificate that you can obtain through the Academic Upgrading program at Cambrian College is a Grade 12 equivalency that is:

• Recognized as an equivalent to an OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) by all Ontario community colleges.

• Accepted by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities as a grade 12 equivalency for Apprenticeships.

• Accepted by a number of employers as a grade 12 equivalency.

Description

Cambrian College’s English as a Second language (ESL) program helps students improve their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to handle everyday interactions in an English-language environment and to upgrade their English skills to a level appropriate for academic studies. This flexible learning program consists of four levels that combine classroom activities with academic workshops and off- campus excursions. English skills are assessed at intake, and students are placed accordingly in the program. Typically, students are required to study for eight months to earn their certificate. Students with advanced English skills my be able to skip levels and complete their certificate in as little as four months, while those with very basic English skills may require foundational concepts and may take longer to complete all requirements.

Cambrian’s Esl program is accredited by languages Canada.

Admission Requirements

19 years of age or older or Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent) from home country.

Tuition Fee (Canadian Students)

The tuition fee for the 2013-2014 academic year is $3,022.40. Next year’s tuition fees will be available by May 1, 2014.

Please note: Our English as a Second Language program fees are expected to increase in January 2014 to $1,738.40 per semester for domestic students.

Tuition Fee (International Students)

The tuition fee for the 2013-2014 academic year is $10,804.20 for two semesters of study. Next year’s tuition fees will be available by May 1, 2014.

Books and Supplies

The estimated cost of books and supplies for the 2013-2014 is approximately $400. This is the best information available at the time of publishing and is subject to change.
