Mingling With Other Guests

You’ll find it beneficial to know as much as you can about the other guests as the game goes on. There are a lot of secrets out there, so use the mingling period to discover as many as you can. Even more importantly, make sure your own secrets stay hidden. Introduce yourselves to the other guests, ask about their backgrounds, give your own background (the best possible version, of course), and share gossip about the other attendees. Find out the story behind everyone’s story!

• Irene den Waldern is Miss Ashley’s best friend. You remember when they used to have slumber parties together. And when, as teenagers, they’d come home throwing up at 3 a.m. in the morning. Or when Miss Ashley protected Miss Irene from her older sister Rose by hiding her in her room when she had too many drugs. But it’s been a long time since then and now Miss Irene is a respectable

businesswoman.

• Richard den Waldern, Miss Irene’s brother, was once such a quiet young man, but always very sad.

You think this life is not the life he should have lived. Miss Ashley said he had been in Florida recently, but you know better; whenever Miss Irene used to say she was in Florida visiting family she was always hiding in Miss Ashley’s room.

• Rose den Waldern was a good friend of Miss Helen. She used to be very carefree when she was younger. She ran around with some musicians from Eagle’s Rose, including that nice young man, Mister Grayson. But then her parents died, and she raised her two younger siblings all on her own.

• Ashley LeBois is like your daughter. You were there for her birth, her first day of school, and her first boyfriend. You covered up for her to her mom when she would spend late nights out with friends. You were big sister, nanny, and mother to her. She has been seeing Mister Chester recently, sneaking in through the back of his hotel. You would say he’s bad for her, but she’s been so happy recently.

• Helen LeBois is Miss Ashley’s older sister, and she owns a very popular clothing line. She has also been very happy recently. She has not been this happy since right before she met her first husband. You suspect there is a man.

• Sam Lily is a very nice man. He was born on a farm, like you were, and he makes Miss Helen laugh. You like it when he comes over.

• David Kreig is a mean young man who wrote a nasty book with Miss Ashley as a character. You read the whole thing, and you know Miss Ashley is Clair, Miss Irene is Serella, Mister Chester is Charles, and Mister Jesse is James. This would make Miss Ashley very angry; try to keep her from finding out.

• Gwen Kreig used to be Miss Ashley’s friend, as much as Miss Ashley has friends. Then one day at Miss Helen’s fashion show something went wrong and now they’re not friends. Sometimes these things happen. In Russia, you leave enemies on ice floe; in Manhattan, you make scandal.

• Grayson Kreig, Mister David and Miss Gwen’s older brother, used to be a rock star, a long time ago when Miss Rose was much happier.

• Jo Chase is making a documentary in Mister Fisk’s house; make sure everything is perfect so Miss Ashley looks good on camera.

• Francine Rose is Miss Irene’s cousin. You think that is odd; she doesn’t look anything like her.

• Jesse Corrington runs The Socialite; even you read it. Sometimes you are even mentioned as “Ashley’s maid.”

• Isaac Corrington is Jesse’s grandfather and a very important man. He was a senator for the U.S.

government once, but now he has retired to rule New York. Even you know who has real power here.

• Once you would have said Chester Fisk was a very bad boy. He was the reason Miss Ashley come home sick. But now, now they are spending time together, and Miss Ashley is so happy.

• Even you remember when Jonathon Fisk was a very bad man. He was not good to women, and he stole people’s money. You don’t know why Mister Francis asked him to come back to New York.

• Francis Fisk is Mister Chester and Mister Jonathon’s older brother and is a very wealthy businessman.

He has been good to this city and to Miss Ashley’s friends. This is his party, so make sure you take care of his every request.

• Mercy Neist just got back from Europe. Maybe she knows some of your old friends.

• Zachary Wellington is a member of Mister Francis’s board from Chicago.

• Candice Wellington is Mister Zachary’s daughter.

• Alexei Siranov is the doorman to Mister Francis’s building. But you have seen him meeting with men you know to be Russian mafia. You have heard them talking in Russian, asking about people who live here. Alexei has told them to leave many times, but they always get their way.

• Taylor Walker is head caterer. Be bossy and make sure their job is done well.

• Jamie Lavigne is a caterer. Be bossy and make sure their job is done well.

• Sydney O’Connor is a caterer. Be bossy and make sure their job is done well.

• Callaway Lee is a bartender.

Act Two

Francis Fisk is dead! If you and the other guests cannot figure out who the killer is before the power comes back on then you will all be taken in to the police and embroiled in a great scandal. It could ruin Miss Ashley’s reputation, and you can’t have that.

During Act Two your primary objective is to piece together what happened to Fisk while keeping as many of your own and Miss Ashley’s secrets as quiet as you can. You know that you are not the killer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have nothing to worry about; if evidence seems to indicate that you committed the crime, the other guests may decide to turn you in to protect themselves! Make certain that you do everything possible to prove your innocence.
