The following scholarships pertain to the College of Business. Applications and information concerning these scholarships are available through the address that follows the description of each scholarship:
CELLULAR SOUTH ACCOUNTING AND COMPUTER INFORMATION SYS- TEMS SCHOLARSHIPS. A four-year scholarship for incoming freshman in Accountancy or Computer Information Systems. THE RAYNOLD CHIZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.This scholarship was estab- lished in 1986 by the family of Raynold Chiz in honor of the late Mr. Chiz, an outstanding business and civic leader of Shaw. This is an endowment fund, the interest of which is available for a scholarship for a worthy student in the College of Business. Application should be made through the Dean of the College of Business, Box 3294.
THE CLEVELAND STATE BANK’S N.L. “NAP” CASSIBRY, JR. MEMORIAL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship was established in 1999 in memo- ry of the late Mr. Cassibry, who was chairman of the board for Cleveland State Bank and an active business and community leader in Cleveland. Full-time stu- dents majoring in degree programs in the College of Business, who demonstrate financial need, qualities of community service, and who have attained an overall GPA of 2.75 are eligible for this award. DELTA CHAPTER OF MISSISSIPPI CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding junior or senior accountancy major at Delta State University. The recipient of this scholarship is chosen by the Accountancy Faculty.
GARVERICK ACCOUNTANCY SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior accountancy major, based on excellence in accountancy, char- acter, and campus involvement. This scholarship is funded by James E. Garverick, CPA; an accountancy alumnus of Delta State University. Contact the Division of Accountancy, CIS and Finance, Box 3222.
GIBSON-YURKOW SCHOLARSHIPS. These scholarships were established to honor the late Dr. John C. Gibson, Dean Emeritus of the Delta State University College of Business and the late John Yurkow, Jr., Chair Emeritus of the Delta State University Department of Accountancy. The scholarship is to be awarded to incoming freshmen who are outstanding student(s) enrolled in the College of Business, demonstrating good character, projecting above-average academic potential, and possessing high scores on the ACT and/or the SAT. BARNSTORMER’S SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship was established by Mr. Jimmy Chrestensen, owner of C & C Aviation, LLC of Cleveland, Mississippi and Mr. Jim Keller, pilot with the Red Baron Acrobatic Team. The $1000 annual scholarship is available to a student majoring in flight operations. Applications should be made through the Commercial Aviation Department, Box 3222.
HILTON HOTELS SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in Computer Information Systems (CIS) in the College of Business. Preference is to be given to applicants who are minority and/or female. The stu- dent must maintain a 2.6 GPA and be in good standing with the CIS program. The recipient should also demonstrate leadership qualities in the CIS Program. The scholarship may be renewed on a yearly basis if the student remains in good academic standing. HOLIDAY INNS-CIS SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship fund was established in 1980 with a gift from Holiday Inns Corporation honoring employees who gradu- ated from Delta State. Eligible applicants are junior or senior computer informa- tion systems majors who will graduate no sooner than the fall semester following the award. Other qualifications require that recipients have a minimum 3.0 GPA and possess outstanding character and leadership attributes. In 1992, the use of the fund was expanded to provide professional development opportunities for both students and faculty in the CIS Department. WILLIAM BENOIT HOLLOWAY SCHOLARSHIPS. Awarded to a rising junior or senior majoring in Accountancy on the basis of scholarship and character. This scholarship is endowed by Mr. William Benoit Holloway, CPA. Contact the Division of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems, and Finance, Box 3222.
HAYDEN MITCHELL COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship was established in January 1999 by Mr. Hayden Mitchell, a 1975 honor graduate of Delta State University. This scholarship is available to sopho- more through senior students majoring in any program in the College of Business. CAPTAIN JAMES F. OUZTS, SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. The Captain James F. Ouzts, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 by Mrs. James F. Ouzts, Sr. of Gainesville, Georgia, and son Mr. James F. Ouzts, Jr. of Irvine, California. Captain Ouzts, Sr., a United States army veteran of World War II, enjoyed a 32-year career with Delta Airlines, logging over 29,000 hours. Captain Ouzts, Sr., died on February 22, 1999. The scholarship provides two awards of $2,500 each for an undergraduate student majoring in flight operations. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholarship, character, and need. THE McDONALD’S RETZER AND RETZER SCHOLARSHIP.This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Retzer in honor of Dr. Lawton K. Owens. This is an annual scholarship of $500 presented to a junior or senior student majoring in Management and Marketing. Applications for this scholarship should be made through the Division of Management and Marketing and Business Administration in the College of Business, Box 3275.
THE MISSISSIPPI SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS SCHOLAR- SHIP. A scholarship is granted to an outstanding rising senior or graduate accoun- tancy major at Delta State University. Selection is made on the basis of scholar-
ship, character, and leadership. This scholarship is endowed through the Education Foundation of the Mississippi Society of Certified Public accountants. The recipient of this scholarship is chosen by the Accountancy Faculty.
JOHN P. QUON GRADUATE ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship, endowed by friends of Mr. Quon, is awarded to a graduate or undergraduate accountancy major. Contact the Division of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems, and Finance, Box 3222.
STAPLCOTN SCHOLARSHIPS. Three yearly scholarships were established by Staplcotn located in Greenwood, Mississippi in the year 2000 and are awarded in the fall and spring. The scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each year are renewable, but may be awarded to different students each semester. Must be full- time students in good academic standing, with preference given to stuents who are from families either farming cotton or connected to the cotton industry. All College of Business majors from freshmen through graduate school are eligible. Students must be residents of the state of Missisisppi. Students may apply in the College of Business.
SOUTHEASTERN AIRPORT MANAGERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship was established by the Southeastern Airport Managers Association in 1992. Those interested must be an aviation management major, have a classifica- tion of junior or above, and must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 with a 3.0 in their major. ORRIN SWAYZE SCHOLARSHIP.Each year the Mississippi Bankers Association awards a $2,500 scholarship to a student in the junior class. Selection of the stu- dents is made on a competitive basis from state supported institutions offering majors in Finance or Banking and Finance. The scholarship is awarded to the stu- dent whose record of achievement best exemplifies the high academic and moral standards characteristic of Orrin Swayze, for whom the scholarship is named. JAMES L. WILLIAMS MEMORIAL BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP.This scholarship was established in 1998 by the family of James Williams as a memorial tribute to James L. Williams, an outstanding business and civic leader in Cleveland. This is an annual scholarship of $500 presented to African-American juniors or seniors majoring in finance, general business, or insurance and real estate. Applications for this scholarship should be made through the Dean of College of Business, Box 3294.
TIM DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Two annual scholarships of $1,000 each are awarded each year to students enrolled in their junior year in the College of Business. The scholarships are given to help two students who exhibit financial need and have high GPA’s. The College of Business Scholarship Committee will select the recipients.
