I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Web Design provides an exploration of the history and current trends in the area of design for the web. By understanding the fundamental components and principles of design of a web page, students will transition into using the industry standards in software to develop page layouts, graphics, and animation that run seamlessly on the web. Students will also learn about file management and appropriate design techniques related to web layout. Instruction implements the latest software and incorporates project-based curriculum that supports a high level of technical competencies. Throughout the course, the students will focus on web page design, planning stages, framework, implementation, site management, Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and several web page and image creation tools. Ultimately, the students will become entry-level competent in the field of web design. This course will be submitted to UC to meet the UC “g” requirement upon approval by the Board.
II. COURSE GOALS
Upon satisfactory completion of this course, the students will be able to: A. Understand the history and current trends of web design
B. Critique web pages based on the Principles of Design C. Design basic web pages using HTML
D. Apply JavaScript to create rollovers, slideshows and forms E. Demonstrate knowledge of how to use CSS and Color Theory F. Create detailed website storyboards
G. Create basic web pages using web authoring software such as Dreamweaver H. Produce websites with Dreamweaver and Photoshop
I. Develop a professional multimedia production using Photoshop and other computer graphic programs J. Understand Cloud computing
K. Demonstrate knowledge of a content management system L. Develop project management skills
M. Understand and develop a marketing plan focused on e-commerce, business development and social networking
N. Demonstrate occupational knowledge, workplace basics, job acquisition skills along with career awareness and community leadership
