Mingling With Other Guests
You’ll find it beneficial to know as much as you can about the other guests as the game goes on. There are a lot of secrets out there, so use the mingling period to discover as many as you can. Even more importantly, make sure your own secrets stay hidden. Introduce yourselves to the other guests, ask about their backgrounds, give your own background (the best possible version, of course), and share gossip about the other attendees. Find out the story behind everyone’s story!
• Irene den Waldern used to attend prep school with Jesse and was a bit of a wild child. However, she now works for a PR firm you have used for your family a few times and has proven a resourceful and inspired publicist. Jesse dated her for a while but they broke it off recently. Perhaps she would be willing to talk to him if you promised her business from some of your more prominent family members.
• Richard den Waldern is a philanthropist who mostly supports children’s charities.
• Rose den Waldern is the socialite queen of the Upper East Side. She is on countless charity boards and wields her power like a true dictator, an iron hand in a silken glove. While you think her scheming a bit below you—her machinations don’t hold a candle to the scheming required for success in politics—you still respect her as a businesswoman.
• Ashley LeBois used to date Jesse and was the perfect match for him. Unfortunately that fell apart. Since then she has proven very driven and risen high in the business world in just a few short years. She would still make a good match for him if you cannot bring Irene around to your side.
• Helen LeBois, Ashley’s older sister, is a popular designer and many of your family have attended state functions in her clothes. You heard through the grapevine that she might be engaged; be sure to congratulate her. Her last husband left her for his secretary—how terribly stereotypical.
• Sam Lily is a fast-rising lawyer specializing in celebrities and movie stars. A few of your family have used him to great success.
• David Kreig wrote some book that has made him famous.
• Gwen Kreig is a designer, you hope; it would explain that dress she’s wearing.
• Grayson Kreig might be a musician; it would explain his hair.
• Jo Chase must be a filmmaker due to her camera. How did she get in here?
• Francine Rose is a cousin of the den Walderns from Florida. She is new to New York.
• Jesse Corrington is your grandson and was a very promising young man until he decided to turn away from your plans for him. Since then he’s steeped himself in the low-life gossip of the socialites and published their rumors on the Internet. Make him see the error of his ways.
• Chester Fisk, brother of Jonathon and Francis, is a worthless excuse for a socialite, all money and no class.
His hotel is responsible for many of the scandals you have had to squash in the past few years. If you can find an opportunity to shut him down take it; that boy is more trouble than he’s worth.
• Jonathon Fisk is Francis’s younger brother. Where Francis has excellent business sense, Jonathon is more likely to be involved in the seedier sides of business dealings. Year ago, he was accused of assaulting a young woman and of being a party to some business transactions that read more like con jobs, after which his brother sent him to run Fisk Enterprises in Australia. You believe he has continued his misdealings down under. What can Francis be thinking, bringing him back here?
• Francis Fisk is a self-made real estate kingpin. In twenty-five years he took himself from rags to riches and has established his firm as one of the most powerful and influential in the tri-state area. You greatly respect him for making a name for himself, and he has excellent taste for someone not born into high society.
• Mercy Neist used to attend prep school with Jesse but just recently returned from Europe.
• Zachary Wellington is a real estate mogul from Chicago, and his firm was recently bought out in a brutal acquisition by Fisk Enterprises. Fisk made him a board member to keep an eye on him. His only living family is his daughter; her mom died in a mysterious fire in one of his old buildings.
• Candice Wellington is Zachary Wellington’s daughter and new to New York. You’ve heard she just graduated from Yale.
• Davana Gudriov is Ashley’s housekeeper.
• Alexei Siranov is working security.
• Taylor Walker is head caterer.
• Jamie Lavigne is a caterer.
• Sydney O’Connor is a caterer.
• Callaway Lee is a bartender.
Isaac Corrington
Retired Senator
Act Two
Francis Fisk is dead! If you and the other guests cannot figure out who the killer is before the power comes back on then you will all be taken in to the police and embroiled in a great scandal. It could ruin your reputation, and you can’t have that.
During Act Two your primary objective is to piece together what happened to Fisk while keeping as many of your own secrets as quiet as you can. You know that you are not the killer, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have nothing to worry about; if evidence seems to indicate that you committed the crime, the other guests may decide to turn you in to protect themselves! Make certain that you do everything possible to prove your innocence.
Special Knowledge and Instructions for Act Two:
• This is an awful scandal and you need to do your best to contain it. You cannot have the Corrington name mixed up in this sordid business.
• You’ve acquired many interesting abilities in your past, one of which is safe cracking. Might come in useful, but don’t let anyone see you do it.
