Even if you don't know to which UC or CSU campus you are transferring, or what your major will be, the IGETC plan provides a road map for your education so you feel confident that your classes will count toward your bachelor's degree, and you won't waste your time. Following the IGETC plan doesn't mean you can't take other courses that interest you; they may transfer as electives or count toward your major.

IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) will guide you in choosing classes which will fulfill lower-division general education

requirements for transfer to any California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) campus. If you complete and certify your IGETC program at a community college, you will not be required to take lower-division general education courses at your transfer institution.

Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)

AREA 6: LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH (UC requirement only) 3 semester units - 1 course required

Some of the course requirements listed below may be fulfilled through Advanced Placement exams or courses from other colleges. If you are planning to major in engineering, the sciences, or another field requiring heavy lower-division major preparation, check with a counselor or the Palomar College Transfer Center to make sure IGETC is the best plan for you.

If you're considering a private college or university, the IGETC plan may still be a good one to follow, as most private schools require a similar core of lower- division course work. Check with the Counseling Center to determine if the IGETC pattern is accepted at the private institution you are considering. Planning to transfer but don't yet know where? Let IGETC be your guide.
