The findings of this study show that all students irrespective of school type had good industry-related mathematics skills acquisition. There was significant difference in the mean scores of secondary school student’s industry-related mathematics skills acquisition based on their school type in favour of single-sex school with high mean score. The findings were in agreement with the finding by Barmao et al (2015) that mathematics teachers’ perceptions of their students skills acquisition in mathematics are positive irrespective of school type.That there was statistically significant difference in their perceptions between single-sex and co-educational classes.

Finding of Gaer et al (2004) also concurred the result of the present study. They found that girls acquired more skills for mathematics in single-sex classes. These findings were not surprising to the researcher. This is because there is no apriori reason to expect that industry-related mathematics should distinguish between co-educational schools and single-sex school considering that co-educational schools have in their enrolment both males and females who consititute either male (single-sex) schools or female (single-sex) schools. However,

reasonable explantions to the fact that industry-related mathematics could distinguish between single-sex and co-educational schools are that boys and girls who are educated in single-sex schools gain more confidence than their co-educational peers, in addition, they make academic gains above those in co-educational schools. (Pahlke, Hyde & Allison, 2014).

Conclusion

Based on the findigns of the study, it was concluded that in Anambra State senior secondary schools, students were sufficiently exposed to industry-related mathematics skills for gainful employment in industries.

Implication of the Study

This study has established the fact that any student who painstakingly undertakes secondary school mathematics would have good acquisition of basic mathematics skills and become a skillful industrial worker.

The study has also shown that acquisition of industry-related mathematics skills did not discriminate between boys and girls. By implication therefore, acquisition of industry-related mathematics skills gives both boys and girls equal opportunity to function in industries after secondary school education.

The study also revealed that acquisition of indstury-related mathematics did not distinguish between urban and rural students. This means that once equal exposure of industry-related mathematics skills were provided for both urban and rural students, functionality in industries will be even for students from both locations.

The study also showed that acquisition of industry-related mathematics skills was not biased against public and private secondary school students. This implies that industry-related

mathematics skills acquisition could be useful to both public and private school students for job performance in industries.

The study has also revealed that acquisition of industry-related mathematics skills did not discriminate between single-sex and co-educational schools’ students. By implication, both students from single-sex and co-educational schools are equally skilled and could be effective industry workers.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations were proffered:

1. Mathematics teachers should continue to teach mathematics in such a way that the students good acquisition of industry-related mathematics skills will be sustained.

2. Industry-related mathematics should be used by mathematics teachers to enhance gender equity in acquisition of all students in industry skills.

3. Managers of schools should ensure equal exposure of urban and rural students to industry-related mathematics skills by maintaining equity in posting and transfering mathematics teachers to both locations.

4. School administrators should organize conferences, seminars and workshops for both the public and private schools mathematics teachers to attend at regular intervals. This is to bridge any gap that might exist between teaching of mathematics in the public and private schools.

5. The Federal and State Ministries of Education should engage the services of industrial staff as part-time teachers in both single-sex and co-educational schools. This will ensure connectedness between schools and industries.

Suggestion for Further Studies

Based on the findings of this study, further research can be undertaken in the following areas:

1. Industry-related mathematics skills acquisition for job performance by tertiary institution students.

2. Industry-related physics skills acquisition for job performance by senior secondary schools.

3. Industry-related chemistry skills acquisition for job performance by senior secondary schools.

4. Industry-related mathematics skills acquisition for job performance by senior secondary school in South East Zone, Nigeria.

5. Industry-related mathematics skills acquisition for job performance by senior secondary schools students in any other state in Nigeria.
