Toxicity in the body is one of the fundamental problems in any illness. Sudden and severe hair loss is usually due to acute stress or sudden toxicity which is poisoning the body. Chronic hair loss is often due to hormonal and nutritional factors or a slow chronic toxicity. Toxicity can cause hair loss because the toxins interfere with the nutrients and hormones that help hair grow. Some toxins interfere with the glands or organs that govern these hormones. These toxins can even damage hair follicles.
In the previous chapter you read about amalgam fillings and how the body can become toxic through the gradual seeping of mercury from amalgam fillings into your body. Another way of becoming toxic is when your body in invaded by parasites.
Parasites are not confined to third world countries. Everyone is susceptible to them, men, women and children, rich or poor. It also doesn't matter whether you live in the countryside or in a city – parasites are everywhere, in the grass of your garden, your pets, the soil and the air. Here are some ways in which you can become infested:
from petting or handling pets and not washing hands afterwards
from contaminated water
from contaminated food (particularly pork and shellfish)
from eating rare meat
from contact with grass and clay
from mosquitos, fleas, tics and common flies
from sexual contact
from not washing your hands after having been to the toilet
from another family member who is infected
from contaminated air in an airplane
Parasites affect your health by destroying body cells faster than they can be regenerated. This leads to holes in the tissues (leaky gut), ulceration and anaemia. Parasites also secrete toxic substances which can send your immune system into overdrive and produce allergic reactions, pain and inflammation. In addition, parasites can also obstruct the intestines and the pancreas.
The symptoms of parasite infestation are numerous, but not everyone displays all of them.
One of the main signs of having a parasitic infestation is if you have an anal itch, rash or fissures (broken skin around the anus).
Symptoms will vary from person to person, and the following list is not comprehensive and may also indicate problems other than parasite infestation:
chronic fatigue
digestive disorders which won't go away
constipation
diarrhoea
bloating and flatulence
multiple allergies
joint and muscle pains
anaemia
hives and rashes
abdominal cramps
eczema, dermatitis, itchy ears, nose, throat
restlessness, anxiety, depression
waking up in the night, particularly between 2 and 3 a.m.
teeth grinding
hair loss
repeated infections and inflammations
problems gaining or losing weight, loss of appetite
eating more than normal but still feeling hungry
drooling while sleeping
numb hands
damp lips at night, dry lips during the day, grinding teeth while asleep
behavioural problems in children
problems concentrating
There are different classes of parasites and within each class are many different types.
Protozoa
These are one-celled and invisible to the eye. They can multiply very rapidly and take over the intestinal tract where they can cause pain, bloating,
constipation and/or diarrhoea. From the intestinal tract, they go on to other organs and tissues.
Round worms
These are visible to the eye and multiply by laying eggs. The eggs are sticky and may be carried to the mouth by unwashed hands or by food.
These are also known as flukes. They have complex lifecycles, involving multiple generations and hosts which can make it difficult to get rid of them. Tape worms
They are the largest intestinal inhabitants of man. They have a head that attaches to the intestinal wall of humans. As long as the head is attached, a new worm can grow from it.
The problem is that conventional laboratory testing can only detect some parasites, but not all. Radionic testing as carried out by kinesiologists and bioresonance practitioners, on the other hand, can show reliably which parasites are in your system and can also help the body get rid of them. Candidiasis (yeast infection)
The same yeast that causes vaginal yeast infection can also cause hair loss.
Candida albicans and other varieties of this fungus occur naturally in small
quantities in the intestinal tract, but some factors can make this fungus get out of control and overgrow your bowels:
the contraceptive pill
antibiotics
iron deficiency/anaemia
diabetes
steroid therapy
pregnancy
high sugar diet
high carbohydrate diet
alcohol
stress
Both candidiasis and parasites live in the intestines and eat the food you are ingesting. This means that your body is not getting the vitamins, minerals and proteins that it needs to grow hair, so it is absolutely vital to get rid of these uninvited guests.
Candidiasis can show itself as affecting skin and nails, or it can occur as a vaginal infection in women. In women who take the contraceptive pill, the candida fungus interferes with the hormonal balance. The Pill raises the
female body to a constant state of false pregnancy. This affects the character of vaginal secretions and favours growth of fungi. Oestrogens in the
contraceptive pill create a tissue climate that furthers candida growth, and this can also cause infertility.
Symptoms of candidiasis
nails showing white patches at the top of the fingernail
vaginal itching
vaginal soreness
white discharge from vagina
painful urination
recurring cystitis
irritability
premenstrual and menstrual tension
anxiety
heartburn
sweet craving
carbohydrate craving
There are some very effective herbal treatments that can get parasites as well as candida out of your body to give your hormonal balance a chance to recover and grow hair again. For herbs that help, see page XX.
Giardiasis
This is a diaorrheal illness condition caused by giardia lamblia (also known as
giardia intestinalis) which is the most commonly reported protozoa worldwide.
It is now estimated that one in six people in the UK are carriers of this parasite. Symptoms usually start appearing about one to two weeks after infection.
Giardia lamblia lives in the intestine of people and animals and is passed in the
stool of an infected person or animal. The parasite is protected by an outer shell that allows it to survive outside the body for long periods of time. This parasite is also present in drinking water and swimming pools.
Ways to contract giardia lamblia
Coming into contact with water that carries the parasite (swimming pools, jacuzzis, fountains, lakes, rivers, ponds, any water that is contaminated with sewage)
Eating uncooked foods which haven't been washed thoroughly
Accidentally swallowing the parasite picked up from contaminated surfaces (bathroom, babies' nappies)
Giardiasis is very contagious, so if you have been diagnosed as a carrier, you can easily spread it. You should therefore take the following precautions:
Wash your hands with soap and water thoroughly every time
after using the toilet
after changing your baby's nappies
before eating
before preparing food
Avoid swimming in pools, hot tubs and jacuzzis while you have the infection and four weeks after your symptoms have stopped.
The tricky thing is that some people have no symptoms although they have the parasite in them. Generally, though, symptoms of giardiasis are:
diarrhoea
loose or watery stools
stomach cramps
upset stomach
weight loss
dehydration
If your immune system is already compromised through toxic dental substances, incorrect diet, vaccinations and jabs and pharmaceutical or
recreational drugs, you are especially vulnerable to parasites. Parasites secrete toxic substances and thereby destroy body cells faster than they can be
regenerated. Also, parasitic excretions tax the body's immune system and produce allergies and allergy-like reactions. Parasites can even stop vital organs such as the brain or the heart from working properly, so it is extremely important to tackle this problem if you want your hair back.
