The Stürmwagon was intentionally designed as a special tactics vehicle, rather than being retrofitted from some other model. This means all of its systems are integrat- ed, not just tacked on. While most police and security vehicles have had lights added, this one sports a pair of high-intensity LED bars that ring the entire top and bot- tom. The bars can be used as normal lights and sirens, but they also double as a flash and flare system. The system can be linked with the electronic vision systems of team members to perfectly time flare compensation and lighting systems for maximum benefit. That means that not only can they ignore all the flashes and blinding light, but they see better thanks to perfect light compen- sation and sensor integration. The forethought put into design also allows this BMW to double as a secondary assault vehicle for special operations teams. The normal elegance of BMW is buried far below the surface, while the intimidation factor is amped up to eleven. Besides tearing down the road on runflat tires, the Stürmwagon’s wheels are protected by bulky wheel wells and covers. The wells are commonly augmented with ablative armor to take a little extra punishment. To make an already-in- tense vehicle even more frightening, BMW has used
their all-wheel steering system on the Stürmwagon to make it handle like a deadly ballerina. Vehicular egress is often an issue in combat situations as doorways be- come chokepoints with predictable patterns. Not on the Stürmwagon. The rear and side doors have a multitude of opening options. The rear doors consist of four panels that are connected magnetically and can be “hinged” on any side of each square. The side doors have the same magnetic system, though they are twelve-paneled. This allows them to create firing ports at a variety of heights while also offering variations on cover provided when entering or exiting the vehicle. Even better, they can form ramps or bridges when needed. Since no one has invented dimensional warping technology (yet), space confinements still place a finite limit on the systems that could be integrated into the interior, so the design- ers created an interchangeable pod system and rein- forced the roof. These pods connect directly into the vehicle’s power supply and device network. They come with a wide range of options, including drone pods, additional weaponry, communications gear, equipment storage, medical supplies, and more. The roof has four plug-in points and two different sized pods (single and double plug).

Selling drek for BMW now, are we, Clockwork? The manual killswitch is an urban legend. What you need to worry about are the honey pot and isolation chamber. The Stürmwagon will often run hidden while displaying a secondary icon that is full of Matrix ugliness. That’s thehoney pot. Then, once you’re in, the device locks you in the isolation chamber. Only way out is to jack out and lose all the work you’ve done. Have fun with these things, script-sammies.

I was operating in the Sioux Nation and ended up in a chase situation with a pair of special operations vans I didn’t recognize. I know now they were Stürmwagons from their AR icons, but that’s not my point. They’re hot on my team’s tail, and we’re pinging rounds off this thing left and right. All of a sudden the two trucks even out, and the side doors open. First, the panels fold down, like Wilma’s talking about, but then they extend out, and the two rigs connect at the door. Two nut-job Sioux ops guys walk out of each rig out onto this makeshift bridge. Two of them lay down some suppression on us as the rigs pull up fast anddeliver the other two right onto the back of our van. It was crazy. This thing is going to have a lot of tricks.

DODGE RHINO
The Rhino is going to be the new star of shadowrun- ner’s nightmares. Images of this beast crushing through flaming walls are already lined up for the advertising push Ares will be spearheading on this, their latest combat achievement. To maintain the common design theme, this urban assault vehicle reverses the Dodge teardrop to create a battering wedge that looks like an axe at the front of the vehicle. The driver sits high and forward, with a hatch and weapon mount directly behind the seat. Below the driver is an AR cocoon for controlling the remote weapon and defense systems. The rear area, where the teardrop is widest, is designed as the cargo and personnel section. The seating in back is designed for a fully outfitted seven-man squad, but little else. The horrifying wedge shearing through the wall is also not the end of the nightmare. The rear of the Rhino opens up at a seam in the center, with both doors shaped like a wedge. They swing outward with a jump seat on each side, usually containing a well-armored ri- fleman. The rear compartment also has two side doors that drop open but act as seating while closed.
Standard equipment on the Rhino includes a pair of forward-firing anti-material rifles intended to soften walls, twelve smoke dispensers evenly spread around the truck for visual obscurement, eight genuine Ares FlashPak systems, and the new Ares Shockwave elec- tro-defense system.
