in a c t i v a t i o n o f c e l l s under the con d ition s o f PO produ ction. From the
r e s u lt s o b ta in e d to d ate i t h as become c l e a r th a t the in a c t iv a t io n
appears to be due to the concerted e f f e c t between the e x t e rn a l PO and an
in t e r n a l u n id e n t i fie d e f f e c t fo llo w in g the o x id a tio n o f p ropylen e. To
in v e s t ig a t e the co n ce n tration o f the e x t r a c e ll u l a r PO c on ce n tration on
the in a c t i v a t i o n d u rin g PO p rodu ction from pro py len e, PO was added to
the r e a c t io n medium which a l s o contained pro py len e, oxygen and methanol.

l.O aN PO f o r 5 a in u t e s , but when c e l l s were t r e a t e d w ith 1.9aM PO under
the con d ition s o f PO p rodu ction , in a c tiv a tio n was a c c e le ra t e d . The c e l l s
