Anexo 37. Indicadores financieros– Proyección 2013-2017

NOTE: Students and parents should be aware that there are some financial obligations to

some music courses offered. Band, Orchestra, and Choir classes require purchase of tuxedo shirts. The Choir requires the purchase of dresses for girls. The Marching Band requires fees for attendance at Band Camp. In some cases these groups require fees for unique travel opportunities that students can supplement with available fund-raising. Students and parents are encouraged to contact the Directors for details.

Bands Marching Band/Wind Ensemble 1

Fall: 05102A/.5 credits

Prerequisite: Director Approval or Successful Audition

This course consists of two parts. Part one (approximately nine weeks) is marching band, and is designed so that students are placed according to their audition results in the spring. Students in the marching band will expand both their psychomotor skills and cognitive skills by combining coordination of marching and playing music simultaneously. Students are expected to attend evening rehearsals, which are held on Monday and Thursday nights during the performance season. All marching band performances and extra-curricular rehearsals are required as part of the course work. Part two of this course is Wind Ensemble 1. The description for this part of the course matches the description below for Wind Ensemble 2. This semester class is taken in the Fall for .5 credits and should be followed by Wind Ensemble 2.

Wind Ensemble 2

Spring: 05102P/.5 credits

Prerequisite: Director Approval or Successful Audition

This class is designed to lead the musically talented students to expand those skills in ensemble performance, cognitive skills including dictation, chord identifications, and historical characteristics of musical periods and their composers. Above all, the Wind Ensemble will build effective skills in refining the fundamentals of music performance and a foundation for creativity and value. The Wind Ensemble presents a Holiday Program, a Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and participates in District and State Festival invitations. This class is taken in the Spring for .5 credits.

Marching Band/Symphonic Band 1 Fall: 05102Y/.5 credits

Symphonic Band 2

Spring: 05102Z/.5 credits

Prerequisite: Director Approval or Successful Audition

This class is designed to have students expand and refine their individual performance and listening skills. Students will begin dictation skills in harmony and identify simple chord progressions in music. Students will perform music to identify characteristics within different musical periods and relationships to some composers. Students will refine and expand concepts with musical creativity and begin to build values. The Symphonic Band presents a Holiday Program, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and may or may not participate in district festival competition. This semester class is taken in the Spring for .5 credits

Marching Band/Concert Band 1 Fall: 05102+/.5 credits

Prerequisite: Successful completion of middle school band program

This course consists of two parts. Part one (approximately nine weeks) is marching band, and is designed so that students are placed according to their audition results in the spring. Students in the marching band will expand both their psychomotor skills and cognitive skills by combining coordination of marching and playing music simultaneously. Students are expected to attend evening rehearsals, which are held on Monday and Thursday nights during the performance season. All marching band performances and extra-curricular rehearsals are required as part of the course work. Part two of this course is Concert Band 1.

Marching Band/Concert Band 2 Spring: 05102>/.5 credits

Prerequisite: Successful Completion of MS Band Program

This class is designed to meet basic needs for the student and development of individual/ensemble performing and listening skills. Some musical concepts are introduced to expand junior high level skills and an introduction of musical periods, their composers, and how they differ. The Concert Band presents a Holiday Program, a Winter Concert, a Spring Concert, and may or may not participate at district festival in a non-competitive setting. This Spring semester class is taken for .5 credits.

Choirs

Blue/Gold Chorale Fall: 05110A/.5 credits Spring: 05110B/.5 credits

This is a choir designed to offer performance, creative, and evaluative opportunities and is open to all students. While previous chorale experience is encouraged, it is not required. Students will be acquainted with a wide variety of choral music and explore vocal production as well as presentation skills. The course includes learning repertoire/ performance, basic skills in ear training and sight reading, music fundamentals, vocal technique, and music enrichment. Activities include concerts in the community, choral workshops, and school programs (winter and spring Concerts). All performances are required as a part of course work. This yearlong class is taken for 1.0 credit.

A Cappella Choir Fall: 05110O/.5 credits Spring : 05110P/.5 credits

Prerequisite: Audition

This is a select choir designed to offer performance, creative, and evaluative opportunities for musically experienced students. Students must demonstrate a high level of interest, musicianship (good understanding of vocal production and music reading), and a sense of commitment and dedication to the fine performance objectives for which the choir is known. The class encompasses learning repertoire/performance, enhancing skills in ear training and sight reading, music fundamentals, vocal technique, and music enrichment. Activities include concerts in the community and outside of the city, district and state choral festivals, workshops, and school programs. All performances are required as part of course work. Successful audition is required to qualify for membership in this performing group. This course meets daily with additional rehearsals scheduled as needed for a high standard of performance. This yearlong class is taken for 1.0 credit.

Orchestras

High School Beginning Orchestra Fall: 05104A/.5 credits Spring: 05104B/.5 credits

This class is designed to offer interested students an opportunity to learn basic performing skills for string orchestra instruments. Instruments shall include violin, viola, cello and bass violin. Students shall demonstrate a high level of interest and dedication by advancing their performance levels through learning beginning string pedagogy, basic music theory and listening skills. Students are required to practice individually and encouraged to pursue private lessons. Activities include winter and spring concerts, and All-City Music Festival. All performances are required as part of the coursework.

High School Symphony Orchestra Fall: 05104O/.5 credits Spring: 05104P/.5 credits

Prerequisite: director approval or successful audition

This class is designed to offer the intermediate to advanced string student an opportunity to perform a variety of musical styles and forms. These styles shall include but not be limited to music written by the classical masters to contemporary compositions. The orchestra shall focus on repertoire written for both string and full orchestra. Students shall demonstrate a high level of interest and dedication by advancing their performance levels through learning string pedagogy, basic to advanced music theory and listening skills. Activities include winter and spring concerts, All-City Music Festival, MSBOA Orchestra and Solo/Ensemble Festivals as well as tours and invitational performances. All performances are required as part of the coursework. This yearlong class is taken for 1.0 credit.

Other Music Courses Piano Lab

Fall: 05107A/.5 credits Spring: 05107B/.5 credits

This course will focus on the development of a positive attitude toward music, including the ability to enjoy music as a performer and an active listener. Each student will learn appropriate technical skills, including piano technique, music theory, ear training, and sight reading. Students will work with a variety of musical styles. During the second quarter, students will work on individual performance from intermediate ability to advanced. Techniques of accompanying, solo performance, and special practice materials will be utilized and independent piano study may be included in the course design. This semester class is taken in the Fall or Spring for .5 credits.

Elements of Music

Fall: 05113A/.25 credits Spring: 05113B/.25 credits

This class is a non-performance music class for students who want to enjoy music. Students will study music from various cultures such as tribal, chant, rock, electrical, Aboriginal, and symphonic while following an historical timeline from the Renaissance to the 20th Century. By listening to CDs, attending performances, and creating their own music students will learn to critique and analyze music forms, styles, and genre. This yearlong class is taken for .5 credits.

Beginning Guitar Lab

Fall: 05108A/.5 credits Spring: 05108B/.5 credits

The course is designed to teach interested students to learn basic classical guitar skills. Students will learn basic performance and music reading techniques including, but not limited to: identifying the parts of the guitar, tuning the guitar strings, playing basic two - octave musical scales, learning to play written music, playing music by ear, playing music using the guitar tabs, and basic music theory. Grading will be according to class participation and performance tests. This semester class is taken in the Fall or Spring for .5 credits.

Advanced Guitar Lab

Fall: 05108O/.5 credits Spring: 05108P/.5 credits

This course builds on and extends the material and skills learned in Beginning Guitar Lab. This semester class is taken in the Fall or Spring for .5 credits.
