3.3 Escuela

3.3.4 Relación Escuela – Familia: elementos claves

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are put forward as possible strategies for improving level of adherence among hypertensive patients.

1. Treatment protocols and guidelines for anti-hypertensive regimen must be developed and implemented.

2. Effective communication and counseling techniques for physicians and pharmacy staff should be developed through regular in-service training.

3. Physicians should educate their first time diagnosed hypertensive patients about their disease conditions and the importance of adherence to treatment.

4. Physicians should consider the financial status of their patients in prescribing antihypertensive drugs to enable affordability and hence adherence.

5. Physicians should endeavour to prescribe an effective, inexpensive medication with minimal side effects as this will improve patient’s adherence considerably.

6. Further research using another validated tool to measure adherence in patients with hypertension is recommended.
