Use your notes, homework booklets and revision guide to make revision notes
Try to put a sporting example with everything e.g., a sprinter would need to consider
specificity when training, so he would use interval training to improve his speed
Try to look at how your own sport fits with everything you have learned
Get someone else to test you regularly. Revise the work you don’t know, not the work you
do
Look at the end of topic tests you have completed to understand the style of questioning
Ensure you understand the Examiner’s Terms e.g., Describe, Identify, Explain
Make revision cards and use mind maps to highlight important points
Have a copy of the Specification Content; it tells you what you should know

SCIENCE
Your science examinations will consist of one paper for each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics regardless of which set you are in. Students studying separate sciences will receive the same number of papers but the content of the papers will differ slightly due to additional content covered in lessons.
Biology
Paper 1 (1hr 10mins) covering the following areas (from the Collins Textbook). This covers work from both Year 9 and Year 10.
Chapter 1 – Cell Biology Chapter 2 - Photosynthesis
Chapter 3 – Moving and Changing Materials Chapter 4 – Health Matters
Chapter 8 – Ecology
Chemistry
Paper 1 (1hr 10mins) covering the following areas (from the AQA Specification). This covers work from both Year 9 and Year 10.
Topic 1 – Atomic Structure and Periodic Table
Topic 2 – Bonding, Structure and Properties of Matter Topic 3 – Quantitative Chemistry (Part 1)
Topic 4 – Chemical Changes Topic 5 – Energy Changes
Topic 9 – Chemistry of the Atmosphere (Combined Science Only) Topic 10 – Using Resources
Physics
Paper 1 (1hour) covering the following areas (from the AQA Specification). This covers work from both Year 9 and Year 10.
Topic 1 – Energy Topic 2 – Electricity
Topic 3 – Particle model of matter Topic 6 – Waves
Revision Opportunities
The Science Department are providing many different opportunities to support you and your revision during the examination season. You should look to embrace these opportunities on offer to you as the Science Department want you to achieve your personal best!
In the lead up to the rehearsal examinations you can attend support sessions on Thursday after school in Room 233. These sessions will help you clarify any misunderstandings and allow you to ask questions to improve your knowledge of subject content. A subject specialist from each area of Science will be available at all these sessions.
Homework Club is held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday in Room 218. At this club you can be supported with your revision homework, as well as having access to computers to complete any online homework set.
Preparing for your exams
In some of your science exams (Chemistry & Physics), you will be provided with a short data sheet. In Chemistry, this will be a periodic table and in Physics this will be a short list of equations. It is important that you look at these before your exams (they are included in the specifications linked in this document). By reading up on the resources you are given, you will be able to establish what equations your will need to learn from your taught lessons and which will be provided to you. This will save lots of time for the future and avoid any confusion in the examination.
You will also need to ensure that you have a Casio calculator (allowed types specified in the school planner) for your examinations. It is essential that you know how to use your calculator properly for the exams, so you should look through the calculator’s manual or use one of the many shorter guides available on the internet. You are free to use your calculator in any examination that the Science Department sets.
Finally, you will need to ensure that you have all the expected equipment for learning in the examination. It is important to have a sharp pencil and ruler for drawing graphs and diagrams, as well as a rubber in case you make any mistakes.

Recommended Revision Guides & Workbooks
The Science Department have put together a list of different revision guides that we recommend. There are many different companies that make revision guides, but we feel that CGP produce guides which are both of high quality and good value for money!
As you are one of the first year groups to go through the new AQA 9-1 GCSE, you will not be able to reuse revision guides from previous specifications or different examinations boards.
All the recommend revision guides can be purchased through school for a reduced price to those that are given in the details!
