You know calisthenics can be done everywhere, right?

Ok, unless you live in the Sahara Desert or the North Pole, not because there isn’t enough equipment, but because you would either get overheated or freeze.

Let’s face it. The world is a huge place.

Cities, parks, buildings and roads everywhere.

But there is a big BUT…because there is no expensive gym equipment or gym around every corner.

And you have been made to believe that you can’t workout without.

Because of this believe you’ve probably done

a few things:

You’ve taken an expensive gym membership or invested in tons of tools which promise huge benefits.

You’ve used regular gym equipment and just don’t see yourself doing a full muscle building workout on four square meter of grass or concrete or desert sand ;).

You’ve read through the routines, seen a few exercises which either required a pull up bar or dip bar and decided that you simply couldn’t do any of the routine at all and went back to gym workouts or no workouts at all.

Let’s stop making excuses and start making ADJUSTMENTS!

To do calisthenics you need two things:

1) A pull up bar 2) Dip bars That’s all.

But if you don’t have a pull up bar or a dip bar right now, what should you do?

Either you get your own here or you make use of the alternatives.

Don’t have a dip bar?

Chances are you are sitting on one now ;).

To replace the pull up bar is just as easy.

With a bit of creativity you can do some alternative exercises which will hit the same muscles.

Now you have all the tools you need in your toolbox to work out even without any equipment.

But let me make things clear to you.

At a certain point, despite these alternatives you WILL need to get your own bars.

Don’t have any?

Don’t worry, just stick to the alternatives for the time being.

You will definitely increase your strength.

Bonus Chapter: My Top 5 Personal Mentors

Now that you know which three mistakes you can make and what characteristics breathe failure, let's take a look at what characteristics breathe success.

Why do it all alone?

There are people around the world that will help you.

Motivate you.

Challenge you.

There are people who want and can help you in ways you can’t imagine.

We all need people to look up to, thankfully a lot of people have already achieved the goals you want to achieve and after doing so have decided to share their knowledge and experience.

Not only does this accelerate your progress, but it also allows you to select your top 5 of people you want to spend, listen or learn from the most.

So why do you need these people?

3.1 Don't make the same mistakes

Mentors have gone through everything you are going through and probably on a deeper level.

They know which obstacles lay ahead on the road and which road is best.

Why go through the same pitfalls, if you can just jump over them and save

yourself years and years of pushing against a brick wall to discover there is a door a few meters away?

3.2 Get direct feedback

Mentors can objectively give you advice and assess what you are doing right now, point out wrongful behavior and put you back on the right track.

You can never objectively look at your own behavior because you are looking at it through your own eyes.

Feedback might sting, but just look at feedback as a blade cutting away the unpolished parts.

3.3 Unlock your true potential

You need to see what's possible first, before you can truly believe it's possible.

There are Bar Brothers or health experts who know and do things you have never thought about.

When they show you what's possible, you will know that the boundaries you have right now are not truly boundaries, just limiting beliefs.

3.4 My top 5 of mentors

Now that you know the importance of a mentor, you can start selecting the mentors you want to put into your top 5.

3.4.1 Eric Thomas

“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful” – Eric Thomas

Eric Thomas has a youtube channel with hundreds of motivational videos, but his most popular is the 'How bad do you want it' video! Watch and learn!

This guy earns millions of dollar a year only with motivating people.

He posts a video every Monday called ‘Thank God It’s Monday’.

And his pure energy and power will actually make you believe that you can run through a brick wall.

3.4.2 Elliot Hulse

“All of our challenges are also challenges for other people. We go through shit so that we can show other people that you can get through shit.” – Elliot Hulse

Elliot Hulse, while he uses weights he embodies what it means to be a true man.

There is not a question he can’t answer as you will see when browsing through his videos.

His concepts might be quite hard to grasp for beginners, but he has some really good video’s on mind-set, relaxation and expressiveness which will surely help you in your training.

3.4.3 Michael Greger

"I continue to be amazed by our bodies' ability for self-repair. Our bodies want to be healthy, if we would just let them.”

Michael Greger, well known for his funny way of explaining serious health related issues. If you have a question regarding food, here is where you can find it.

He will surprise you with his research findings and perhaps even shock you, because some of the things you thought to be true are all but.

3.4.4 William Davies

“Aside from some extra fiber, eating two slices of whole wheat bread is really little different, and often worse, than drinking a can of sugar-sweetened soda or eating

a sugary candy bar.”

William Davies is has receive a lot of critique because of his seemingly extreme view on our food.

He is the writer of the book Wheat Belly in which he gives an elaborate explanation on why our current food pattern is far from healthy.

While at first you might not believe this, the results speak for themselves.

3.4.5 CT Fletcher

“Fuck average, beast or bitch, it’s your choice. If you can control your mind, you can control your motherfucking muscles. Command them fuckers to grow”

There are no words to describe this guy and his pure motivation to build muscle and become the strongest version of himself.

Not everyone will like his way of motivating people, but he sure as hell does a good job at motivating his students.

We all have that teacher from the introduction who tells you: “You can’t fly”, because that teacher is called ‘life’.

‘And if you keep believing in someday, no day will ever be YOUR DAY.’

Together, I’ll be there when you need me.

I’ll cheer you forward, when you do that muscle up and give you a kick in the ass when you want to prefer television over training.

I will give you advice when you feel down and show you the way when you are lost.

I will scream at you when you want to get that final set and pull you up when you feel like giving up.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Q 1: Will I get results with calisthenics?

Read the ebook again ;). Yes you will, but only if you put in the time and effort. No system, method or exercise will give you results unless you make it work.

Q 2: What kind of equipment do I need?

You need dip bars and a pull up bar. That’s all. If you are not able to get your own, make use of the alternative exercises which have been explained in the equipment chapter.

Q 3: Should I start with the full body routine, the 6 month plan or the system?

This depends on your personal preference and level of skill right now. The system will provide you with full video tutorials which are the most detailed of the 3 options. If you are not willing to make the investment you can always start with either the 6 month plan or the full body routine. Note that the goal of the full body routine is to start the 6 month plan.

Q 4: What do I need to do to become an official Bar Brother?

First you need to pass the official exam. After passing this exam you have to upload it to youtube to show everyone that you meet the criteria. From that point on you can call yourself an official Bar Brother. There aren’t any assessment organisations or people who are going to assess your exam personally. It’s something you do to prove it to yourself and the Bar Brothers you are training with that you have the required skill level.

Q 5: Are Bar Brothers DC and Bar Brothers Groningen the same?

No, Bar Brothers Groningen is a chapter of the Bar Brother Movement. We were inspired by the official and first Bar Brothers who started in DC (They are the only original Bar Brothers) I however, have built this website, because there wasn’t any information online about Bar Brothers and on how to become one. Fortunately more chapters are catching up! All thanks to the continuous effort of Dusan and Lazar.

Q 6: What should I eat?

Read the ebook again and click on the right links :P! What you want to stick to is a paleolithical diet in combination with intermittent fasting, where the basic premise is that if your great-great-great-caveman grandfather wouldn’t eat it, you shouldn’t either.

Q 7: I am a woman, can I also do Bar Brother exercises?

Yes. There is not a single reason why you shouldn’t be able to do these exercises as a woman.
