Janet Barke Cain ’89 has been appointed by Governor Tim Pawlenty as a First Judicial District trial court judge in Carver County.
Sharon Hills ’89 has been elected to the Severson, Sheldon, Dougherty & Molenda, PA, board of directors.
Roger L. Kramer ’89 was named to the “Top 40 in ADR” list by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine. Roger’s trial practice focuses on the areas of Personal Injury Insurance Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Roger is a member of the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota board and the American Board of Trial Advocates, and is certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association as a Civil Trial Specialist. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Hamline University School of Law teaching insurance law. Roger has certification as a Rule 114 Neutral, and is admitted to the Minnesota State Courts and the U.S. District Court, District of MN. In April 2008 he started his own law firm, Kramer & Short, located in St. Paul.

Scott Miller ’90 published his most recent article, “Atrophied Rights: Maximum Hours Labor Standards under the FLSA and Illinois Law,” in the spring 2008 issue of the Northern Illinois University Law Review. He practices union-side labor law in Chicago, as legal counsel for AFSCME Council 31.
1991
Brian Bates ’91 passed away June 12, 2008 at the age of 60. He was an environmental lawyer who fought against tobacco company advertising aimed at young people, and worked to ban or limit the proliferation of billboards in St. Paul and other cities. He also was a passionate advocate for the Mississippi River and various other local rivers, streams and wetlands. At various times he was a member of many groups and boards, including Scenic Minnesota, the Sierra Club and the Macalester-Groveland Community Council.
Ann Knox-Bauer ’91 has been appointed by Governor Jim Doyle as judge to the Taylor County Circuit Court in Wisconsin. She will begin serving in late January 2009.
Nancy Bostrack ’91 has been appointed by Governor Tim Pawlenty to the Third Judicial Court in Winona County.

Van Tran ’92 has taken a new position with the law firm Snell & Wilmer L.L.P. to be the “as of counsel.” In this role, Van will be the point person in building relationships with the representatives of the numerous Asian and Pacific Islander communities in California.
Thomas J. Walsh ’92 published an article, “The Rise and Fall of an Archetype: Revisions to the ‘Wisconsin Model’ Child Support Guidelines,” in the summer 2006 University of Memphis Law Review.

Julie Callsen ’93 was elected as a partner at the firm Tucker Ellis & West LLP. Julie is a member of the Trial Department and focuses her practice on pharmaceutical, medical malpractice and product liability litigation.
Michael Gableman ’93 has been elected as the newest member of the Wisconsin State Supreme Court. Michael currently serves as a Burnett County Circuit Judge and is a former adjunct professor at Hamline University School of Law.
Elliot B. Kula ’93 has been named a 2008 “Florida Super Lawyer” in the appellate practice category. Only five percent of South Florida attorneys have been named to the list. Elliot is a partner in the Miami office of Greenberg Traurig, P.A. and has been a member of the firm’s appellate practice group since 1999. He resides in Miami Beach with his wife Ellen, and two children, Hannah and Max.

Linda Wold ’93 was elected to serve as the MSBA Family Law Section Publication Chair. The publication is a quarterly publication for family lawyers called the Family Law Forum. She practices family law as a solo practitioner in Maple Grove.

Michelle A. Dietrich ’94 has been appointed by Governor Tim Pawlenty to a Fifth Judicial District trial court bench vacancy certified by the Supreme Court for chambers in Lincoln and Lyon Counties.
Tim Kenny ’94 and his wife Joan welcomed their third daughter, Margaret Rose, on July 12, 2007. Margaret joins big sisters Mary (7) and Catherine (5). Tim is an Intellectual Property Partner at Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P.
in Minneapolis and was profiled in April by the Minneapolis/ St. Paul Business Journal as a “Top 40 Under 40” honoree.

Jonathan Reppe ’95 and Liz Robb ’95 were married on October 19, in Nerstrand, MN. Jonathan practices out of his firm, the Reppe Law Office in Northfield. Liz manages the Washington County Law Library in Stillwater. The couple resides in Northfield.

Joel Larson (DuFault) ’96 was presented with the award for “Outstanding Attorney of the Year” for a Rural Jurisdiction by the Arizona Public Defender Association at its June 2007 conference in Tempe, Arizona. The award recognizes outstanding achievement/performance by a public defender outside of Pima and Maricopa counties. Joel is employed by the Cochise County Legal Defender in Bisbee, Arizona. The award was presented in recognition of a verdict of acquittal obtained in a case involving a soldier accused of child abuse.
J. Michael Prairie, Jr. ’96 has been the General Counsel of the U.S. operations of Nitto Denko Corporation, a Japanese multi-national company. Nitto Denko has five companies in the United States, with headquarters in California, Wisconsin and Florida.
Claudia Saavedra Hoyos ’96 passed away on December 13, 2008, at the age of 38, surrounded by her husband Juan and her closest family members and friends. She had been admitted to in-patient hospice care at North Memorial on December 5. Claudia is survived by many family members, including her brother Jorge Saavedra, a 1997 graduate of Hamline University School of Law. Claudia was born in Santiago, Chile, and came to the United States at the age of six. She graduated from Bismarck Century High School in 1986, Georgetown University in 1991, and Hamline University School of Law in 1996. After graduating with honors from Hamline Law School, Claudia worked as a securities and international law attorney, first at Dorsey &
