The Art Institutes Military Discount
Active duty and honorably discharged members of the US Armed Forces and their families have worked hard to protect our nation. That is why The Art Institutes system of schools is proud to offer our service men and women a special tuition discount and fee waiver program.
If service members’ VA benefit (including Chapter 33) do not cover tuition costs and they are on active duty, in the National Guard, or are an eligible spouse, The Art Institutes will discount scheduled tuition by 10% as well as waive all application and registration fees.
Applicants who have not earned a bachelor’s degree must provide an official copy of their final high school transcripts, GED scores, or college transcripts indicating achievement of an associate degree fully transferable to a bachelor’s degree, or higher.
Other proof of high school graduation or its equivalency may be considered under special circumstances and must be approved by the President of The Art Institutes International – Kansas City.
High school seniors who have not yet graduated should submit a partial transcript which indicates their expected graduation date.
Application Essay
All applicants are required to independently conceive and write an essay for the Admissions Committee to review and approve as part of the admissions process. Associates and Bachelor’s degree seeking students should write a 150-word essay to answer the question, “How do you expect your education at The Art Institute to help you attain your career goals?”
Application Essay for Diploma in Digital Image Management
Students may demonstrate their preparation for the program by submitting, if applicable, a college transcript showing relevant courses or a portfolio. All students must write a brief essay (250 words) in response to the following prompt: “Please identify an image in an advertisement found in a popular magazine that you think successfully advances the purpose of the advertisement. Please identify elements of the image and describe how these elements advance the purpose of the advertisement. Your essay should address line, shape, value, texture, and color.”
Application Essay for Diploma in Fashion Retailing
Students may demonstrate their preparation for the program by submitting, if applicable, a college transcript showing relevant courses or a portfolio. All students must write a brief essay (250 words) in response to the following prompt. “Please identify the fashion retail store that you think has the most successful buying experience for its customers. Please identify the elements of the store that add to the experience in a positive manner and describe how those elements add to the buying experience. Your essay should address line, shape, value, texture, and color.”
Application Essay for Web Design & Development
Students may demonstrate their preparation for the program by, if applicable, a college transcript showing relevant courses or a portfolio. All students must write a brief essay (250 words) in response to the following prompt: “Please identify a web site that you think provides an outstanding experience to the user. Please identify the elements of the site that add to the experience in a positive manner and describe how those elements add to the experience of the site. Your essay should address line, shape, value, texture, and color.”
Application Essay for Web Design & Interactive Communications
Students will be asked to demonstrate that they have developed skills in Image Manipulation, Fundamentals of Web Scripting, and User-Centered Design. Students may demonstrate skills in these areas through previous courses, or work experience, or a portfolio.
Students with high school grade point averages below the minimum required 2.0 (2.5 for Game Art & Design) admission requirement should also include:
• an explanation of any extenuating circumstances that affected their high school GPA. • a clear explanation of what the applicants will do in order to meet The Art Institutes
International – Kansas City’s graduation requirement and earn a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
Portfolio
Students seeking admission to study in the Game Art & Design program must submit a portfolio and receive approval from the Media Arts department in order to be admitted. Portfolios are welcomed, but not required, by all other programs.
College Entrance Examination Scores
Applicants who have taken the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) are encouraged to submit scores to Admissions for evaluation.
