This sectionprovidestheinformationfor convertingyourtowermodelservertoa rack-mounted server.

Notes:

1. This kitisdesignedfor convertingseveraldifferentservermodels.Yourserver mightlookdifferentfromtheserversthatareillustrated, andsomepartsof the kitmightnotbeused.

2. Exceptwhereindicatedotherwise,illustrationsinthis documentshowhot-swap models.

Preparing the server

Topreparetheserver,completethefollowingsteps:

1. Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginsonpagev,“Installationguidelines”on page 3,and“Handlingstatic-sensitivedevices”onpage3.

2. Shutdowntheserveroperating system.

3. Turn offtheserveranddisconnectallcables.

4. RemovealldrivesanddrivebayEMC shieldsfromtheserver.

Attention: Onsimple-swapmodels,removetheharddiskdrivesandEMC shieldsfromthefourharddiskdrivebays;donotattemptto removethe permanentpanelthatcovers theupper portionof theharddiskdrivebay area.

Note: Forinstructionsfor turningoff theserver,seethedocumentationthatcomes withtheserver.

Removing the covers, bezel, and feet

Toremovethecovers,bezel,andfeetfromtheserver,completethefollowingsteps:

1. Unlocktheleft-sidecoverandpullthecover-releaselatchdownwhileyourotate thetopedgeof thecoverawayfromtheserver;then, liftthecoveroffthe server.Savethecoverforuseasthetopcoverintherackconfiguration.

2. Press ontheleftedgeof thebezel,androtate theleftside ofthebezelaway fromtheserver.Rotatetheleftedgeof thebezeloutbeyond90°;then,pullthe bezelawayfromtheserver.

3. Removetheright-sidecover:

a. Fromtherearoftheserver,removethescrewsthatholdtheright-sidecover inplace.

Note: Savethescrewsfor useinstep4conpage 14.

b. Slide theright-sidecovertowardtherearoftheserverapproximately25mm (1 in.);then,lifttheright-sidecoverawayfromtheserver.Storethe

right-sidecoverfor potentialfuture use.

Important:Makeanoteof whichdrivesareinwhichbaysbeforeyou remove thedrives.

4. If youhavenotdonesoalready,removetheharddiskdrivesfromtheserver andsetthem aside:

v Onmodelswith2.5-inchharddiskdrives,removethedrivesandfillerpanels fromallthedrive bays.

v Onhot-swapmodels, removethedrivesandallEMC shieldsandfiller panels fromallthedrive bays.

v Onsimple-swapmodels,removetheEMCshieldsanddrivesfromthe 5.25-inchbaysandthebottomfourharddiskdrivebays.

Attention: Donotattempttoremovethepermanentpanelthatcoversthe upperportionoftheharddiskdrivebayarea.

5. Removethefourfeetfromthebottomof theserver.

CAUTION:

Use safepracticeswhen lifting.

a. Carefullypositiontheserveronaflatsurfaceasshowninthefollowing illustration.Thefeetshouldhang overtheedgeoftheflatsurfaceto ease removal.

b. Carefullyuse aflat-bladescrewdriver topush inthetabsoneachof thefour feetandremovethemfromtheserver.Storethefeetforpossiblefutureuse.

6. RemovethesixM4screwsfromtheserverasshowninFigure7onpage9.

Save thesescrewsforuseinstep6onpage25.

Relocating and installing hardware, covers, and bezel

Completethestepsinthissectionto:

v Removeandrotatethe2.5-inchharddiskdrive innercageto therackposition(if necessary)

v RemovetheEMC shieldsfromthe5.25-inchdrive cage v

InstallthenewEMCshieldsinthe5.25-inchdrivecage v Installthenewbottomcover

1. Onmodelswith2.5-inchharddiskdrives,rotate theinner harddiskdrive cage totherackposition.Otherwise,continueto step2onpage12forinstructions forremovingtheEMC shieldsfromthe5.25-inchdrivecage.

a. Removethepowersupplyorpowersuppliesfromtheserver.

b. Raisethepower-supplycageoutoftheway:

1) Press inonthepower-supplylatchbracket, whichisontheleftsideof theserver,whenfacingtherearof theserver.

2) Lifttheendof thepower-supplycage androtatethecageupuntilit stops.Thetabontherearpower-supplylatchbracketwillclickinto placewhenthecageiscompletelyoutof theway.

3) Letthepower-supplycagerestontherearpower-supplylatchbracket.

c. Removethefanassemblyfromtheserver.

d. NotethelocationoftheSAScablesandremovethemfromthesystem board.

e. Usingyourthumbs,pressintheretentiontabs oneach sideof theinner harddiskdrive cagewhileyoupull thecage outoftheserver.Whileyou removethecage,useyourfreehandto guidetheSAScablesoutofthe server.

f. Afteryouhave removedtheharddiskdrive cagefromtheserver,rotateit 180°andreinstalltheharddiskdrive cageintotheserver.Besureto feed theSAScablesthroughtheopeningfirst; then,pressthecage intothe openinguntilit clicksintoplace.

g. ReconnecttheSAScablesto thesystem board.

h. Reinstallthefanassemblyandpowersuppliesinto theserver.Tocontinue withthenextprocedure,goto step4 onpage14.

2. Onmodelswith5.25-inchharddiskdrives,removethescrewsthatholdthe EMCshieldstothedrivecage;then,removetheshields.Save thescrewsto installthenewEMCshields.

3. InstallthenewEMCshieldsinthe5.25-inchdrivecage.

a. Insertthetaboneach plateintoitsslotalongthesideof thedrivecage.

b. Aligntheholeintheplate withtheholeintheedgeof thedrive cage.

c. Inserttheself-threadingscrewsthatyouremovedinstep2 onpage 12to securetheshieldsinplace.Tocontinuewiththenextprocedure,gotostep 4onpage14.

Note: Theself-threadingscrewsmightrequiresomeefforttoinstall.

4. InstallthenewbottomcoverthatcomeswiththiskitasshowninFigure11.

a. Carefullyturntheservertop-sidedownona flatsurfaceandplacethe bottomcoverontheserver.

b. Alignthebottomcoverwiththeframe oftheserver;then,slidethecover towardthefront,making surethatthetabsontherearandfrontofthe coverfitintotheslotsontherearandfrontof theserver.

c. Securethebottomcoverinplacewithtwo ofthescrewsthatyouremoved instep 3aonpage6.

a. Alignthetopcoverwiththeleftedge ofthetopoftheserver.

b. Holdthetopcoveragainsttheserverandrotateit closed.

Note: Makesurethatthefrontedgeofthecoverisflatagainst theserver.

6. Presstherightsideof theangledUSBassemblyandrotate theassembly out oftheserver.

7. SqueezethesidesoftheUSBconnectorandremoveit fromtheangled assembly;then,squeezethesidesoftheUSBconnectorandconnect itto the flatUSBassembly.

8. InserttheassemblytabintotheslotontheserverandrotatetheflatUSB assemblyintothechassis.

Note: Theconnectoriskeyedandfits intheassemblyonly oneway.

9. Installthenewbezel:

a. Selectthetransparencyforthenewbezel:

1) Comparethebezelthatyou removedinstep 6tothebezels inTable1

b. Installthetransparencyandlensinto thenew bezelthatcomes withthis kit.

1) Position thetransparencyasshowninfigure16;then,fitthe

transparencyoverthesquareholesinthebezel,usingtherecessasa guide.

2) Fitthelensoverthetransparency.

c. Installthetrimpanelsforthebottomtwo5.25-inchexpansiondrivebays.

Attention: DonotcovertheCDdrivewithatrimpanel.

d. Onmodelswith2.5-inch harddiskdrives,install the2.5-inch fillerintothe bezel.Otherwisecontinuetostep9etocompletethebezelinstallation procedure.

1) Insert thebottomof thefillerintotheharddiskdriveopeningof the bezel.

2) Rotate thebezeltowardtheserverandpressuntilit snapsintoplace.

f. Attach theIDlabelto thetopof thebezel:

1) OrienttheIDlabelsoit readszerothroughelevenfromlefttoright.

2) Align thezerowiththefirstharddiskdrive slotandpressthelabelinto place.

10. Installthefourblue handlesandfourbluerack-supportwheelsthatcomewith thiskit:

a. Insertthescrewsof therack-supportwheelsthroughthebluehandles as shownintheillustration.

b. LocatethethreadedscrewholesontheserverthatareshowninFigure19 onpage 20.

c. Attachthehandlesandrack-support wheelsto thesidesof theserverby rotatingthewheelsinaclockwisedirectionintothethreaded screwholes.

(Thesewheelsareusedtohelp aligntheserverwhenyou installitinthe rackandwillberemoved later.)

11. Installtherelease-latchbracketassembliesthatcomewiththiskit:

a. Aligntheleftbrackettabwiththesideof theserver.
