Preparing the server
Topreparetheserver,completethefollowingsteps:
1. Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginsonpagev,“Installationguidelines”on page 3,and“Handlingstatic-sensitivedevices”onpage3.
2. Shutdowntheserveroperating system.
3. Turn offtheserveranddisconnectallcables.
4. RemovealldrivesanddrivebayEMC shieldsfromtheserver.
Attention: Onsimple-swapmodels,removetheharddiskdrivesandEMC shieldsfromthefourharddiskdrivebays;donotattemptto removethe permanentpanelthatcovers theupper portionof theharddiskdrivebay area.
Note: Forinstructionsfor turningoff theserver,seethedocumentationthatcomes withtheserver.
Removing the covers, bezel, and feet
Toremovethecovers,bezel,andfeetfromtheserver,completethefollowingsteps:
1. Unlocktheleft-sidecoverandpullthecover-releaselatchdownwhileyourotate thetopedgeof thecoverawayfromtheserver;then, liftthecoveroffthe server.Savethecoverforuseasthetopcoverintherackconfiguration.

2. Press ontheleftedgeof thebezel,androtate theleftside ofthebezelaway fromtheserver.Rotatetheleftedgeof thebezeloutbeyond90°;then,pullthe bezelawayfromtheserver.
3. Removetheright-sidecover:
a. Fromtherearoftheserver,removethescrewsthatholdtheright-sidecover inplace.
Note: Savethescrewsfor useinstep4conpage 14.

b. Slide theright-sidecovertowardtherearoftheserverapproximately25mm (1 in.);then,lifttheright-sidecoverawayfromtheserver.Storethe
right-sidecoverfor potentialfuture use.
Important:Makeanoteof whichdrivesareinwhichbaysbeforeyou remove thedrives.
4. If youhavenotdonesoalready,removetheharddiskdrivesfromtheserver andsetthem aside:
v Onmodelswith2.5-inchharddiskdrives,removethedrivesandfillerpanels fromallthedrive bays.
v Onhot-swapmodels, removethedrivesandallEMC shieldsandfiller panels fromallthedrive bays.
v Onsimple-swapmodels,removetheEMCshieldsanddrivesfromthe 5.25-inchbaysandthebottomfourharddiskdrivebays.
Attention: Donotattempttoremovethepermanentpanelthatcoversthe upperportionoftheharddiskdrivebayarea.
5. Removethefourfeetfromthebottomof theserver.

b. Raisethepower-supplycageoutoftheway:
1) Press inonthepower-supplylatchbracket, whichisontheleftsideof theserver,whenfacingtherearof theserver.
2) Lifttheendof thepower-supplycage androtatethecageupuntilit stops.Thetabontherearpower-supplylatchbracketwillclickinto placewhenthecageiscompletelyoutof theway.
3) Letthepower-supplycagerestontherearpower-supplylatchbracket.
c. Removethefanassemblyfromtheserver.
d. NotethelocationoftheSAScablesandremovethemfromthesystem board.

e. Usingyourthumbs,pressintheretentiontabs oneach sideof theinner harddiskdrive cagewhileyoupull thecage outoftheserver.Whileyou removethecage,useyourfreehandto guidetheSAScablesoutofthe server.
f. Afteryouhave removedtheharddiskdrive cagefromtheserver,rotateit 180°andreinstalltheharddiskdrive cageintotheserver.Besureto feed theSAScablesthroughtheopeningfirst; then,pressthecage intothe openinguntilit clicksintoplace.
g. ReconnecttheSAScablesto thesystem board.
h. Reinstallthefanassemblyandpowersuppliesinto theserver.Tocontinue withthenextprocedure,goto step4 onpage14.
2. Onmodelswith5.25-inchharddiskdrives,removethescrewsthatholdthe EMCshieldstothedrivecage;then,removetheshields.Save thescrewsto installthenewEMCshields.
3. InstallthenewEMCshieldsinthe5.25-inchdrivecage.
