When the users found data was lacking or there were gaps in the photos they linked the last photos that had been captured before the gap with the first photos taken after the gap and then combined the other types data that were captured inbetween together. For example, participant (R) described her actions and activities when she combined the movements of her hand and body with the last photos taken before the gap and first photo taken after the gap; [RW11-120] “… that photo shows me holding the kids bath
coats and some of their dress”. The last photos she found on the timeline and the next
movements encouraged her to cite actions and thoughts; [RW11-121] “...yes, I did a
shower for him” and she then talked about the emotional state; [RW11-122] “… he was very happy to have a shower ... his sister refused that, she started crying when I asked her to have a shower”.
I found that continued scanning could allow users to bridge and fill the gaps when data was missing on the timeline by combining the other available data captured at the same time. Participant (R) relied only on the movements of her hand and body to describe her
Chapter 7 – Evaluation of IsstLog 162 actions and activities when she found gaps in the photos. She talked about the reasons of this; [RW21-40] “… I forget to wear the camera and turn it on again when we went
out of the library”. She mentioned people she met there; “...my friends and her daughter were there as well”. She cited time and action; “… we had a lunch together”,
and mentioned her conversations; “… she told me about her new job…”.
Participant (E) mentioned that he checked the last few photos captured before the gap and the first few photos when the camera was turned on again. He then combined them with the log data of his hand and body on timeline; [EW31-58] “... when I saw the last
photos and first photos that I captured I filled the gap and recalled that period of time in my mind's eye”. The expression “mind’s eye” refers to the human ability of
visualization to recall past events.
Participant (R) found a series of blank and unclear photos on the timeline. She described these events by combining these photos with the log of her body and hand movements and the electricity consumption graph; [RW11-91] “… we did small birthday party for
my son … those dark photos taken when we turned off the lights and TV”. She
mentioned thoughts; [RW11-92] “…the children did not stop singing…”, [RW11-93]
“…their voices were very loud...they repeated the song many times”, and she described
hers and others emotional state at the time; [RW11-93] “… it was wonderful and
amazing”, [RW11-94] “…the kids were very happy and excited” (see figure 7.40).
Participant (E) depended only on the movements of his hand and body to continue his narration as he navigated along timeline when he found a very large gap in the photo data. He mentioned conversations; [EW32-194] “…she said, do not use any media to

record the workshop”, and he cited thoughts; [EW32-195] “…it was Chinese girl with the speaker …the Chinese girl works as interpreter to explain some points for the Chinese students”, [EW32-197] “…the first part given by a woman and the second one was given by a man... at the end of the talk checklist was distributed for attendance to be eligible to make appointments” (see figure 7.41)..
Participant (R) unable to provide any information or description at the beginning of the timeline when she found the contents of the photos nearly the same and no movements of her hand and body, but she mentioned some actions and activities when she navigated forward on the timeline and combined the photos with her movement data and with the electricity consumption graph; [RW11-110] “… I was sitting on the sofa
and drinking my coffee”, [REW11-111] “… that photo shows my cup and many photos show the TV...” (see figure 7.42).
Participant (E) described some of his actions and activities at short period lacking of photos [EW11- 157] “… I went to the hospital appointment ... last photo of that
movement shows the stairs of the hospital”. He mentioned the time when he checked

Chapter 7 – Evaluation of IsstLog 164 the last photo; [EW11- 158] “…I switched off the camera exactly at 13:00 and I turned
on again at 13:43”, and cited his thoughts; [EW11- 160] “…I just waited few minutes to meet the doctor ... I did not use any of the medicine he described to me ... he was uncertain about the side effect of the medicine ... almost of his answers was uncertain”.
He mentioned conversations; “...many times he said maybe ... it could be ... I am not
sure”, and actions; “...my wife put the medicine in the bin when I told her the story” (see
figure 7.43)..
Participant (E) described a number of his activities on the computer when he combined the screen images with the photos and with the log of his hand and body movements; [EW32-145] “… here, I am back working on the computer”. He mentioned what he was doing on the computer; [EW32-145] “… I was surfing the internet”. He switched to the photos and combined them with the electricity consummation graph when he found a gap in the screen images; [EW32-146] “.... those photos there show I moved to watch
TV”, and he cited intentions; [EW32-147] “… it was a report about Libya civil war”
(see figure 7.44).

Chapter 7 – Evaluation of IsstLog 165
Participant (E) switched to the photos, when he found a gap in his screen images on the timeline, to allow him to finish talking about an event, He mentioned actions; [EW21- 135] “...those photos there show I was talking to one of my colleagues”, and he cited conversations; [EW21-136] “... He was asking me about my country latest news”, [EW21-137]. He also cited emotional states; [EW21-136] “... he was very happy about
the news I told him”, [EW21-138] “…I was very happy to see another people care about other problems and share them their happiness”.
Participant (R) combined her hand and body movements and linked them to the last photos before the gap and the first photo after the gap to talk about a period of time which was not presented in the photos. She mentioned actions and activities; [RW11- 120] “… that photo shows me holding the kids bath, coats, and some of their dress ”, [RW11-121] “...yes, I did a shower for him”, and she talked about emotional states and thoughts; [RW11-122] “… he was very happy to have a shower ... his sister refused
that and start crying when I asked her to do that”.
