• Set up broadband wireless networks.

• Build dynamic web-based applications.

• Connect SIP clients to converged system server.

Nitec in Mobile Systems and Services graduates are employed for a wide range of jobs in the Infocom industries that include:

• Network & Communication: Network Operations Management, Monitoring and Maintenance, Network Planning Design and Implementation

• Tele-communications: Network Operations and Maintenance, Network planning & design, Radio Access Network

Management and Wired Network Management.

Some of the job titles held by graduates include Technical Support Officer, Testing Specialist, Technical Support Associate and Technical Specialist. There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for students to prepare themselves by upgrading their technical skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses.

MODULE OBJECTIVES

Core Modules

Internetworking Technologies

On completion of this module, students should be able to install, set up, configure, troubleshoot, upgrade and commission basic wired LAN and WAN network devices. Students will also be introduced to basic network troubleshooting techniques.

Dynamic Web Applications Development

On completion of this module, students should be able to develop, deploy and test web-based applications. Students should be able to create, maintain databases and create multi-user web applications with database connectivity.

Mobile and Wireless Security

On completion of this module, students should be able to set up and configure security measures for a wireless networked environment to provide security and privacy. Student should also be able to perform synchronization of mobile devices with PCs and servers.

Mobile and Wireless Broadband Networking

On completion of this module, students should be able to set up, configure and test next-generation wireless broadband networks.

Students should be able to troubleshoot wireless networking devices and monitor the performance of wireless networks using diagnostic tools.

Mobile Applications

On completion of this module, students should be able to develop and deploy applications for mobile devices with various development platforms.

Network Management

On completion of this module, students should be able to monitor and manage wired and wireless network. Student should also be able to configure network resources to enhance performance.

Converged Networking

On completion of this module, students should be able to setup, configure and test Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) networks and application services. Student will be able to troubleshoot VoIP network using diagnostic software. Students will be introduced to Unified Communication.

Project

On completion of this module, students should be able to integrate and apply a cluster of key technical, social and methodological competencies in carrying out a project which is related to their field of study.

Life Skills Modules

Life skills in broad terms are the foundation skills and personal qualities that an individual can transfer from one job setting to another to manage and adapt to changes in technology and work environments.

Software Testing and Change Management

On completion of the module, students should be able to conduct software functionality testing using automation tool. They are trained to track defects and generate defects analysis reports using industrial change management tool

Database and SQL Essentials

On completion of the module, students should be able to write queries using SQL against single and multiple tables, manipulate data in tables, create database objects, and query metadata.

Technical Mathematics

On completion of the module, students should be able to understand mathematical principles and apply knowledge to solve engineering problems.

Electives (Inter-disciplinary)

Game Development for Mobile Devices

On completion of the module, students should be able to develop basic interactive game application for Mobile Devices using the application development tools.

Small Business Management

On completion of the module, students should be able to identify a significant business opportunity, prepare a promotional package and conduct a sales event for a small business.

Electives (Cross-level) Entrepreneurship

On completion of the module, students should be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired from the course to identify a business opportunity and to develop a business plan for launching and operating a small enterprise. The training also covers market and competitor analysis, and fundamentals of business finance.

Cyber Wellness

On completion of the module, students should be able to identify dangers and risks in using the internet and to protect themselves from dangers in cyberspace.

Mobile Applications Development with Java ME

On completion of the module, students should be able to build mobile applications using the J2ME platform for mobile devices.
