In Fig. 5.3, i n t e n s i t y d i s t r i b u t i o n s at 278.1 nm are shown, (a) for v e r tical ports and (b) for h o r i z o n t a l p o r t s , at 10 y s inte r v a l s about a spike. In Fig.
5.3(c) the same indi v i d u a l values as in (b) w e r e p l o tted, but the cur v e s w e r e drawn to o b t a i n a m o r e s y m m e t r i c a l d i s t r i b u t i o n a b out a point b e t w e e n H3 and H 4 . That it is p o s s i b l e to o b t a i n such d i f f e r e n t c u r v e s from the same set of v a l u e s h i g h l i g h t s the n e e d for m e a s u r e m e n t s w i t h s m a l l e r i n t e r v a l s of d i s t a n c e b e t w e e n a d j a c e n t o b s e r v i n g points.
