The program covers the key concepts of Lean Thinking (Value, Value Stream, Flow, Pull, and Perfection), brings a practical understanding of how to identify and expose the opportunities presented by the ubiquity of waste in businesses and delivers practical instruction in powerful Lean tools & techniques such as Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen and others.

Blended with this, the program provides instruction on primary Six Sigma concepts such as variation and process capability and incorporates the problem solving and process improvement techniques associated with the Six Sigma framework known as DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control). Detailed instruction on implementation of foundational Lean approaches such as 6S Workplace Organisation, Visual Management & Standardised Work is provided while other powerful methodologies such as SMED, Kanban, TPM & OEE are also covered.

The objective of this programme is to provide participants with the necessary skillset to support day-to-day operational excellence and continuous improvement activities across business organisations, within the context of an overall Lean Sigma programme.

It is aimed at team members throughout the organisation who will play a role in continuous process improvement. It is also particularly suitable for team leads and leaders of Rapid Improvement Teams (RITs).

It equips participants with a detailed understanding of the use of tight operational performance focus, 6S workplace organisation, Visual Management and Standardisation to expose primary opportunities for improvement. The Lean Project Manager Programme combines the philosophy of Lean Thinking with the discipline of Project Management and the concepts of teamwork and team performance

This course is uniquely designed to support project manager and team member engagement by specifically aligning comprehensive classroom based instruction, workshops and activities with client based project work. It is envisaged that in conjunction with the training, participants will lead or play a leadership role in the completion of an improvement project defined by the business Certification of the overall programme will be assessed partly on the basis of successful project completion.

The course combines classroom training with the practical application of the concepts learned on actual workplace problems, including the selection of the appropriate tools and application of methods. The training may be supplemented by support from an identified mentor.

The course contains the following elements:

Lean Thinking – including the Five Lean Principles, Eight Wastes as defined by Lean and specific modules on a selection of Lean Tools & Techniques

Critical Lean elements such as 6S/Workplace Organisation, Visual Management, Standard Work, Kaizen, Pull systems & Kanban, TPM & OEE, Value Stream Mapping, PIT Process

Teams & Teamwork – consisting of team set-up, management of team performance , coaching team members and running team meetings effectively

Basics of Project Management – incorporating project establishment and chartering, the project lifecycle & critical project management skills

Problem Solving: The programme investigates the role of problem solving as the basis of continuous improvement, it incorporates the process improvement and problem solving A3 process. Utilising the Six Sigma framework known as DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control) or alternatively the Demming framework known as PDCA (Plan, Do Check, Act).

The key Lean approaches such as 6S and Visual Management are incorporated in this framework which also includes a number of non-statistical problem solving tools that can be used immediately to discover the root cause of defects and other problems.
