Detailed Information about the Course Context of the Course

Contribution to the profesional profile of the degree

The objective of the course is to learn how to analyze the process of economic development.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites. It is important to notice that the course will use mathematics tools, at a level roughly similar to that taught in high school.

5 Grading

Activities Criteria

Weight

3 short written exams during the period of the course:

The grade will be

calculated on the best 2 exams.

In the event a students will miss one or more exams, the grade will be

calculated on the remaining exams.

In the event the student will miss all 3 exams, all the weight of this section will pass to the final exam.

There will be no extra exams, under any circumstances.

25 %

Group Presentation A small group presentation

of the economies of:

China, India, Brazil, Russia

15 %

Active class participation and class punctuality.

10 %

Final Written Exam

50 %

Exceptions to the previous grading system:

1) Students who attended the class during the year, failing to pass the course, but satisfying the class requirements (group presentation, short written exams), and taking the final exam for the second time (“convocatoria extraordinaria”): the course grade will be determined with the same weights as above, that is: written final exam (second attempt) 50%+group presentation 15%+short written exams

25%+participation 10%

2) Students who did not attend the class (“dispensa de escolaridad”): written final exam 100%

3) Students who did not attend the class during the year, but attended the class previously (“repetidores”): written final exam 100%
