THE FLOWER DONATION FOR THE WEEKEND OF AUGUST 6TH & 7TH HAS BEEN MADE BY MS. ELVIRA PEREZ MURGA IN MEMORY OF FAMILIA MURGA BARRIENTOS
FROM OUR PASTOR / DE NUESTRO PÁRROCO
Dear friends,
I invite you to reflect again this week on Pope Francis’ message for the first Day for Grandparents and the Elderly (2021):
Given this, I want to tell you that you are needed in order to help build, in fraternity and social friendship, the world of tomorrow: the world in which we, together with our children and grandchildren, will live once the storm has subsided. All of us must “take an active part in renewing and supporting our troubled societies” (ibid., 77). Among the pillars that sup- port this new edifice, there are three that you, better than anyone else, can help to set up. Those three pillars are dreams, memory and prayer. The Lord’s closeness will grant to all, even the frailest among us, the strength needed to embark on a new journey along the path of dreams, memory and prayer.
The prophet Joel once promised: “Your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men will have visions” (3:1). The future of the world depends on this covenant between young and old. Who, if not the young, can take the dreams of the elderly and make them come true? Yet for this to hap- pen, it is necessary that we continue to dream. Our dreams of justice, of peace, of solidarity can make it possible for our young people to have new visions; in this way, together, we can build the future. You need to show that it is possible to emerge renewed from an experience of hardship. I am sure that you have had more than one such experience: in your life you have faced any number of troubles and yet were able to pull through. Use those experiences to learn how to pull through now.
Dreams are thus intertwined with memory. I think of the painful mem- ory of war, and its importance for helping the young to learn the value of peace. Those among you who experienced the suffering of war must pass on this message. Keeping memory alive is a true mission for every elder- ly person: keeping memory alive and sharing it with others… Without memory, however, we will never be able to build; without a foundation, we can never build a house. Never. And the foundation of life is memory.
Finally, prayer. As my predecessor, Pope Benedict, himself a saintly el- derly person who continues to pray and work for the Church, once said:
“the prayer of the elderly can protect the world, helping it perhaps more effectively than the frenetic activity of many others.” [4] He spoke those words in 2012, towards the end of his pontificate. There is something beautiful here. Your prayer is a very precious resource: a deep breath that the Church and the world urgently need (cf. Evangelii Gaudium, 262).
With my prayers of gratitude for the presence among us of many wiser and older friends,
With my prayers, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler Pastor
Queridos amigos,

SECOND COLLECTION
This weekend, we will be visited by Fr. Patrick Owusu Aboagye and will learn more about our second collec- tion which supports the annual Mission Cooperative Plan Appeal for our diocese. Our parish mission or- ganization is Diocese of Konongo-Mampong. This appeal helps our brothers and sisters who do not have access to basic pastoral services that support and grow their faith, like Mass, the sacraments, religious edu- cation as well as basic needs – like food, shelter and healthcare. You can support these organizations through this week’s 2nd Collection. If donating by check, please make your check payable to our parish and put “MCP” in the memo line. Through your sup- port, the MCP Appeal helps these mission organiza- tions form vibrant faith communities and strengthens the global Church.
Please be generous.
SEGUNDA COLECTA
Those who have received First Holy Communion and not yet graduated from high school are eligible to join.
Altar servers carry out an essential ministry in the Church. They assist the priest in offering the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass while helping everyone present to pray. There is no better way to serve the Church and St. Anthony’s Parish while also discerning one’s own vocation and deepening one’s devotion to Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
Training will take place Saturday, July 30 at 11:30am in the church. Lunch will be provided.
Contact Deacon Tim Courtney at revmrcourtney@stanthonyparish.org to join.

During this first year of our 3-year preparation for the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Arlington, Bishop Burbidge asks us to remember that the Eucharist is the source and summit of the Catholic Life. Don’t let the Real Presence of
Our Lord in the Eucharist be the Undiscovered Treasure in your life. In this space, we will feature excerpts from Eucharistic Miracles by Joan Carroll Cruz.
Eucharistic Miracles:
Thomas á Kempis, author of The Imitation of Christ, witnessed a Eu- charistic miracle of one of his brother priests. The priest was going to say Mass at the altar of St. Agnes. He needed to use two crutches to walk. Af- ter Mass, through the power of Jesus and the intercession of St. Agnes, he no longer needed his crutches. He explained to his brethren, “I considered the words of the Evangelist St. Luke, who himself relates of Jesus, ‘And all the people sought to touch Him, for there went virtue out of him and healed them all.’”
One of our goals for this campaign is to renovate and expand the church entryway.
An expanded entryway will increase the size of the Narthex for gatherings and support informal minitry meetings. A further need is to improve access to narthex restrooms and the size and layout of our gift store. Our current main entryway is small and does not provide our
community with a gathering space for socialize before and after Mass.

THANK YOU ANNA & ANDRE
On behalf of all of our parish family, I want to thank Anna and Andre Toussaint for their years of dedicated and faith- ful service to our parish Music Ministry. Since their arriv- al Andre and Anna have been tireless and joyful in leading us all in music and song to praise God in our liturgies. The program has developed well and grown under Andre’s able leadership. Anna’s beautiful voice has lifted our hearts toward God, enhancing our prayer. All of this is made more meaningful by the fact that it occurred during the pandemic lockdown and all of the hardships it brought. With all of this in mind, it is with sad- ness—but with great gratitude—that we must bid them farewell. They have decided to move to New York and so will be leaving St. Anthony’s. Please make a point to express personally your well wishes.
With my respect and prayers for many blessings on your next endeavors,
Fr. Matthew Z.
MUCHAS GRACIAS ANNA & ANDRE
tros corazones hacia Dios, realzando asi nuestra oración.
Fr. Matthew Z.
