Estimadas Familias, ¡Estoy tan orgullosa de nuestros estudiantes, profesorado y de nuestros padres de fa-milia! Todos han trabajado muy arduamen-te para sacarle el mejor provecho a le edu-cación virtual. Asisto a las clases diaria-mente y veo a los maestros enseñando co-mo si estuvieran en el salón. Veo a estu-diantes tratando de hacer sus trabajos arduamente, muchos de los cuales, ustedes han ayudado para tener “un área de estu-dio”. Now that the school year is in full swing, kindergarten is moving forward with great skills! November is a month full of days off so it is very im-portant to continue to work with your child during these breaks so they grow and do not fall behind. Continue having the students read to family members every night to improve fluency and practice comprehension. In Language Arts, students need to continue working on writing simple sen-tences independently with sight words spelled correctly. In Math, students will begin working on composing (addition) and decomposing (subtraction) numbers up to 10 through number sentences and word problems. Students need to be able to count on from any number and identify all shapes. As al-ways, please continue to promote your child to be inquisitive to continue learning. Remember to practice sight words, letter names and sounds, num-ber recognition, counting, and ways to make numnum-bers up to 10 through addi-tion and subtracaddi-tion. We hope your family enjoys the upcoming Thanksgiv-ing holiday and will work diligently with your child over the long break.
Thank you, thank you, and thank you! This is the month where we focus on GRATITUDE! We are so grateful for our students. This is also the time of the year when the leaves change color and the weather begins to cool down and so do our students. Second graders are well on their way learning and growing in their classes. Our second grade staff is hard at work teaching, assessing, and examining data to ensure our students are learning. It is important that your child see your support regarding his/(her) academic progress. In reading, this month, students will continue to read a variety of texts with emphasis on pur-pose and understanding. We want students to read with fluency and expression. Please when you listen to your child read, look for expression and if they slow down at a comma and stop at a period. As a reading strategy, we will identify the main topic of a longer text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs and the details that support the topic. In math, students will continue to identify and practice addition and subtraction strategies for problem solving and re-grouping. Finally, students will continue to work in small groups that are tai-lored to meet their individual needs.
First grade will be working on two main reading standards for the month of November. The first half of the month we will be working on identify the main idea of a text, by answering the who or the what of a
text. For example what is the text mostly about? Students will learn to look for clues to identify the main idea, such as: reading the first and last sentence, looking closely at the title, repeated words, and bold print. The second half of the month student will look for similarities and differences between two text on the same topic; such as trains and au-tomobiles. In writing we will be expanding on our informational writing skills by researching a topic using non-fiction books and identifying key factional information. In math, students will be learning addition and subtraction strategies to efficiently add and subtract to 20.

Noviembre es un mes lleno de muchos días festivos por lo tanto es muy importante que usted continúe trabajando con su niño-a durante estos días para que sigan avanzando y no se queden rezagados. Continúe permitiendo que lean a su fami-lia cada noche para mejorar su fluidez y practicar su comprensión. En Artes del Lenguaje los estudiantes necesitan continuar trabajando en escribir oraciones sen-cillas independientemente, usando y deletreando correctamente las palabras de uso frecuente. En Matemáticas los estudiantes comenzarán a trabajar en composición (sumas) y descomposición (restas) de números hasta el 10 así como oraciones numé-ricas y problemas escritos. Los estudiantes deben estar capacitados para contar a partir de un número dado e identificar todas las figuras geométricas. Como siempre, por favor continúe motivando a su niño-a a ser inquisitivo para continuar aprendien-do. Recuerde practicar las palabras de uso frecuente, nombre de las letras y sus sonidos, reconocimiento de números, contar y maneras de encontrar números no ma-yores de 10 usando la suma y la resta. También es el tiempo en que las hojas cambian de color y el clima se pone mas frio, así también nuestros estudiantes. Ellos están haciéndolo bien en su proceso de aprendizaje y crecimiento académico. El equipo de segundo grado esta enfocado en aplicar los mejores métodos de enseñanza, examinando detenidamente los resultados obtenidos para asegurar que los estudiantes estén aprendiendo. Es im-portante que su hijo-a vea que usted lo esta apoyando en su progreso académico. En lectura, este mes, como estrategia de lectura, estaremos identificando la idea princi-pal de textos mas extensos, y los argumentos que sustentan la idea principrinci-pal. Quere-mos que los estudiantes lean con fluidez y expresión. Por favor, cuando escuche a su hijo-a leer, fíjese en la expresión y si disminuye la velocidad de lectura cuando se presente una coma y se detiene cuando hay un punto. En matemáticas, los estudiantes continuarán practicando las estrategias de suma y resta con reserva. Finalmente, los estudiantes continuarán trabajando en grupos pequeños de trabajo para adaptarse a las necesidades individuales de cada estudiante.
El primer grado estará trabajando en dos normas principales de lectura para el mes de noviembre. La primera mitad del mes trabajaremos en identificar la idea principal de un texto, respondiendo a quién o qué de un texto. Por ejem-plo, ¿De qué se trata principalmente el texto? Los estudiantes aprenderán a buscar pistas para identificar la idea principal, tales como: leer la primera y la última oración, mirar de cerca el título, palabras repetidas e impresión en negrita. La segunda mitad del mes el estudiante buscará similitudes y dife-rencias entre dos textos sobre el mismo tema; como trenes y automóviles. Por escrito vamos a ampliar nuestras habilidades de escritura informativa mediante la investigación de un tema utilizando libros de no ficción e la iden-tificación de información clave de facciones. En matemáticas, los estudiantes aprenderán estrategias de suma y resta para agregar y restar eficientemen-te a 20.
Fall is here and the holiday season is quickly approaching! Fourth grade is in full swing of trying to reach our academic goals. Parent/teacher con-ferences will be held this month, so be sure to schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher(s). This month in math, 4 th graders will be working on fractions. We will be adding and subtracting fractions with like denom-inators, using visuals to represent fractions, decomposing fractions, and understanding the difference between a proper (less than 1 whole) and an improper (more than 1 whole) fraction. We remind you that it is essential for students to memorize their multiplication facts to be successful in math, so remember to study those each night! In writing, students are writing opinion pieces. After reading a text, students should be able to pick a side and give evidence and details to prove their point. In reading, students will be learning about nonfiction text features. They should be able to identify these features and explain how they enhance the text. What new information do they give? How does knowing the text structure of a text help the reader? As always, your child should be reading a book at their level every night for at least 30 minutes. Talk with your child about what (s)he has read. Remember your child’s education is our priority but we can’t do it alone! We need your support at home! Continue to read, rest, eat healthy foods, and get plenty of exercise to ensure a successful The third graders have been working really hard to be the best they can be! They are still learning multiplication and its properties, we will also be working on division, along with area and perimeter. Students should be practicing the multiplication flashcards each night. They are learning about motion and matter in science, and personal hygiene in health. During our reading lessons we will be reading literature stories and looking at point of view as well as discussing the chapter, stanza, or scene of a story, drama or poem. Please remember to have your child read for 20-30
minutes every night, including weekends and over the holidays to improve reading skills. Our third grade students should be reading and taking Ac-celerated Reading tests at their level each week. Be sure to ask your stu-dent how many points they have earned so far and encourage them to set goals for reading. Students have been working on writing opinion para-graphs and will begin working on informational parapara-graphs. Parental in-volvement is a key component to the success of students. Please help make sure that your child attends school daily, is on time, doesn't leave early, that homework is complete, and that they are ready to learn when they ar-rive each day.
We are beginning our in-depth fraction unit this month, which includes adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using models and standard algorithms. Please ensure that they are working on the problems while they are off. We are learning about finding the main idea and the key details. The students will use that knowledge and will apply it in writing. It is exciting that we are able to integrate information across content areas! We also will be looking at points of view and comparing different accounts. We will continue to teach our students how to provide evidence using quotations and use this skill in both reading and writing. Keep read-ing, fifth grade!
El otoño ya ha llegado y tenemos que celebrar que nuestros estudiantes de cuarto año siguen trabajando arduamente para alcanzar sus metas acadé-micas. Las conferencias entre maestros y padres de familia serán este mes, asegúrese de programar una cita con el maestro de su hijo (a). Este mes en matemática 4to año estará trabajando en fracciones. Estaremos su-mando y restando fracciones con denominadores en común, usando repre-sentaciones visuales, descomponiendo fracciones, y entendiendo la diferen-cia entre las fracciones propias e impropias. Les recordamos que en 4to año es esencial que los estudiantes se memoricen las tablas de multiplicación para poder tener éxito en matemática, por lo tanto le recordamos que de-ben repasarlas diariamente. En la lectura estamos aprendiendo acerca de las secciones de textos de no ficción y de como dichas secciones nos ayudan a comprender el texto. Les recordamos leer diariamente por 30 minutos al nivel del niño-a. En la escritura estamos trabajando en ensayos de opinión. Los estudiantes deben leer un texto y tener una opinión. Ellos deben usar evidencia del texto para defender su opinión. Continúen descansando, co-miendo saludablemente y ejercitándose para poder asegurar un año escolar exitoso.
¡Los estudiantes de tercer grado han estado trabajando muy duro para ser lo mejor que pueden ser! Todavía están aprendiendo la multiplicación y sus propiedades, también estaremos trabajando en la división, junto con el área y el perímetro. Los estudiantes deben practicar las tarjetas de multiplicación cada noche. Están aprendiendo sobre el movimiento y la materia en las ciencias y la higiene personal en la salud.
