The Most Holy Trinity
With the celebration of Pentecost signaling the end of the Easter Season, we resume Ordinary Time. We ease into Ordinary Time with the first two Sundays being special Liturgical celebrations. Today we celebrate The Most Holy Trinity and next Sunday we celebrate The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, formerly called Corpus Christi.
Special attention is given to the Holy Spirit in all three Scripture readings for today. The First Reading from the Book of Proverbs tells of the Wisdom of God often referred to as the Spirit. She is described as God’s co‐worker in creation. The “pouring forth” of Wisdom reflects the abundance of love God showed from before creation.
In the Second Reading from Romans, St. Paul reminds us that “the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” He also reminds us that we have peace with God through Jesus. The Holy Trinity works together.
During the last few weeks of the Easter Season we heard repeatedly from St. John how Jesus tried to prepare his disciples that he was leaving them, that they would no longer see him and that this was necessary so the Spirit of truth could come and guide them. We celebrated the coming of the Spirit last Sunday on Pentecost. Today’s Reading is almost like a reminder to them and us. Jesus ascended into heaven and the Spirit descended upon his disciples. I feel the Reading is telling us “See, I told you so!”
So what do we do about it? WE ACT! We too have received the Spirit and the gifts the Spirit poured out.
The Spirit will guide US to all truth as the Spirit guided the first disciples. We only have to ask. The Holy Spirit is very powerful. As I have said many times before, it is not easy to live our Catholic faith, but I believe it is worth it. We have to really live it with the help and guidance of the Father, Son and Spirit.
Jesus told us that the Father and he are one. The Spirit is part of that unity. We profess our faith in the unity of the Trinity. Let’s live like we believe in God the Father’s abundant love for us in creation, Jesus’
love poured out to save us, and the Spirit’s love, guidance, wisdom and presence with us now.

La Santísima Trinidad
Con la celebración de Pentecostés señalando el final del Tiempo Pascual, retomamos el Tiempo Ordinario.
Pasamos al Tiempo Ordinario y los dos primeros domingos son celebraciones litúrgicas especiales. Hoy celebramos La Santísima Trinidad y el próximo domingo celebramos El Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo, antes llamado Corpus Christi.
Se presta especial atención al Espíritu Santo en las tres lecturas bíblicas de hoy. La Primera Lectura del Libro de los Proverbios habla de la Sabiduría de Dios a la que a menudo se hace referencia como el Espíritu. Se la describe como colaboradora de Dios en la creación. El “derramamiento” de Sabiduría refleja la abundancia de amor que Dios mostró desde antes de la creación.
En la Segunda Lectura de Romanos, San Pablo nos recuerda que “el amor de Dios ha sido derramado en nuestros corazones por medio del Espíritu Santo que nos ha sido dado”. También nos recuerda que tenemos paz con Dios a través de Jesús. La Santísima Trinidad trabaja junta.
Durante las últimas semanas del Tiempo Pascual escuchamos repetidamente de San Juan cómo Jesús trató de preparar a sus discípulos que los dejaría, que ya no lo verían, y que esto era necesario para que el Espíritu de la verdad pudiera venir. y guiarlos. Celebramos la venida del Espíritu el pasado domingo de Pentecostés. La lectura de hoy es casi como un recordatorio para ellos y para nosotros.
