Father’s Day Mass
As you know Bishop Michael Sis has reassigned Father Freddy to Campus Ministry in San Angelo at Angelo State University. While we hate to see him go, Father Freddy is the perfect priest for that ministry! He will bring so very much to that college, and I know that college will not be the same after it experiences the ministry of our beloved, wonderful priest Fr. Freddy!
What I would want is for all of us to send him forth with a HUGE blessing of love, support, friendship, prayers, and everything else his heart can hold! Come to his party on June 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the parking lot in front of All Saints Hall. There will be music and of course FOOD!

Last weekend we had to make the difficult decision to cancel the 2022 Vacation Bible School. Many were
saddened or disappointed; however, we are under strict guidelines to host any youth activity within the parish, and a part of those guidelines is adult supervision. There were very few who responded to this need. I believe this is probably one of the first times that the parishioners of Our Lady of Guadalupe did not come forward and offer their time to assist the Religious Education Program, but it didn't happen. I am sure there are several reasons for the lack of response. Maybe it was the week that conflicted with other plans such as vacations or other commitments.
Maybe it was because some still fear the pandemic and large crowds. Maybe it was because everyone else thought that everyone else would step up. Who knows the real reason? Truthfully as pastor, I was disappointed, and it concerns me a bit with what lies in the near future. The bishop has reassigned Fr. Freddy to another ministry in the diocese, and he will not be replaced with another priest. There is no way this parish can sustain the level we are at with everyone relying on everyone else and the one priest to do the ministries needed among us. Everyone needs to be involved in what we offer to one another and to the larger community. This is your invitation to be involved and committed to the Lord and to the Church. Pray about where you are needed and do it! I would remind you of my approach to ministry: volunteers are not needed! Even the word volunteer gives the impression that you are doing a favor for someone else. God does not need favors nor do the priests! What is needed in every area of ministry are people who feel called to respond with their specific gifts and talents. It is then and only then that the commitment one makes to ministry is between that person and God. If that person does not fulfill their commitment he/she answers to God not to the coordinator of the ministry nor to the priests, but to God
Himself. Be involved.
El fin de semana pasado tuvimos que tomar la difícil decisión de cancelar la Escuela Bíblica de Vacaciones 2022.
Muchos estaban tristes o desilusionados; sin embargo, estamos bajo guías estrictas para organizar cualquier actividad juvenil dentro de la parroquia, y una parte de esas guias es la supervisión de un adulto. Fueron muy pocos los que respondieron a esta necesidad. Creo que esta es probablemente una de las primeras veces que los feligreses de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe no se presentaron y ofrecieron su tiempo para ayudar al Programa de Educación Religiosa, pero no sucedió. Estoy seguro de que hay varias razones para la falta de respuesta. Tal vez fue la semana que entró en conflicto con otros planes como vacaciones u otros compromisos. Tal vez fue porque algunos todavía temen la pandemia y las grandes multitudes. Tal vez fue porque todos los demás pensaron que todos los demás darían un paso al frente. ¿Quién sabe la verdadera razón? La verdad como párroco, me
decepcionó, y me preocupa un poco lo que se avecina en el futuro cercano. El obispo ha reasignado al Padre Freddy a otro ministerio en la diócesis y no será reemplazado por otro sacerdote. No hay forma de que esta parroquia pueda mantener el nivel en el que estamos con todos confiando en todos los demás y en un sacerdote para realizar los ministerios necesarios entre nosotros. Todos deben participar en lo que ofrecemos a los demás y la comunidad en general. Esta es nuestra invitación a implicaros y comprometeros con el Señor y con la Iglesia.
¡Ora acerca de dónde se te necesita y hazlo! Les recordaría mi enfoque del ministerio: ¡no se necesitan
voluntarios! Incluso la palabra voluntario da la impresión de que le estás haciendo un favor a otra persona. ¡Dios no necesita favores ni los sacerdotes! Lo que se necesita en cada área del ministerio son personas que se sientan llamadas a responder con sus dones y talentos específicos. Es entonces y solo entonces que el compromiso que uno hace con el ministerio es entre esa persona y Dios. Si esa persona no cumple con su compromiso responde a Dios no al coordinador del ministerio ni a los sacerdotes, sino a Dios mismo. Esté involucrado.
