Letter from the Pastor
Howdy,
We have begun our Novena to Our Blessed Mother with our Bishop and all those in our diocese. If you have not begun to pray the Rosary it is OK to start now; you can join at any time and if you forget one day, just start again. It is the prayer that is important, even if you do not do the entire 54-day Novena.
Of course, it is good if you can pray the Rosary with your family as Sr. Lucia recom- mended. Anything that unites the family during this important time is good. Remember that there are pamphlets to help you with the Rosary if you have forgotten or never learned;
do not be ashamed, it is never too late to learn.
It was many years after my conversion before the Rosary became important to me.
You can also look on the website for the Diocese of Phoenix for more information about the Novena, how to pray the Rosary, or about the centennial of the apparitions of Our Blessed Mother at Fatima.
May this be an especially holy time for you and your family.

Que tal,
Hemos comenzado nuestra Novena a Nuestra Santa Madre con nuestro Obispo y toda nues- tra diócesis. Si no han comenzado a rezar el Rosario, está bien empezar ahora; pueden unirse en cualquier momento si llegan a olvidar rezar un día. Es la oración lo que es importante aunque no lleguen a completar los 54 días de la Novena.
Por supuesto, es bueno si pueden rezar el Rosario con su familia como la Hna. Lucía recomendó. Todo lo que une a la familia durante este tiempo tan importante es bueno.
Recuerden que hay folletos para ayudarles si han olvidado o nunca han aprendido a rezar el rosario; no se avergüencen, nunca es demasia- do tarde para aprender. Fueron muchos años después de mi conversión antes de que el Rosario se convirtiera en algo importante para mí.
También pueden consultar en la página web de la Diócesis de Phoenix para más información sobre la Novena, cómo rezar el Rosario o sobre el centenario de las apariciones de Nuestra Madre en Fátima.

Our first School Mass and Dinner will be on Saturday, September 16th at the 5:00pm Mass followed by dinner in the parish hall.
Our Sports Program for the 5th-8th grade students has begun! The boys play flag football and the girls play volleyball. GO KNIGHTS!! The teams play other schools within the Diocese.

Cuando no hacemos bien las cosas en el mi- nisterio o trabajo, se nos quita de repente las responsabilidades a las que hemos sido lla- madas y se le confieren a otra persona. Esto sucede cuando solamente nos preocupamos egoístamente de nuestros propios intereses.
Eso ha pasado en la primera lectura de hoy.
Hay cambio de liderazgo; el profeta anuncia que Sebná será sustituido de su cargo por el hijo de Elcías. Eleacín es la persona destina- da para trabajar por el bien común. "Pondré la llave del palacio de David sobre su hom- bro. Lo que él abra, nadie lo cerrará; lo que él cierre, nadie lo abrirá" (Is 22, 22).
La similitud, en el Evangelio, existe cuando Jesús escoge a Pedro quien será el líder de su Iglesia. "Y yo te digo a ti que tú eres Pe- dro y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia.
Los poderes del infierno no prevalecerán sobre ella. Yo te daré las llaves del Reino de los cielos; todo lo que ates en la tierra que- dará atado en el cielo, y todo lo que desates en la tierra quedará desatado en el cie- lo" (Mt 16, 18-19).
Estos pasajes de la Sagrada Escritura tienen profunda enseñanza y advertencia para la comunidad de discípulos que ejercen su mi- nisterio en las parroquias. Poner la llave del palacio de David en Eleacín y las llaves del Reino de los cielos en las manos de Pedro, significa confianza de Dios hacia sus minis- tros. Por lo tanto, la respuesta debe ser fide- lidad hacia Dios para servir a su Iglesia, con la pregunta de Jesús siempre en la mente y corazón. "Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?" (Mt 16, 15). Para usted ¿quién es Cris- to? Es vital la respuesta para cada persona que se dice seguidor de Jesús.
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church." Simon got a new name after his profession of faith. As soon as he declared to Jesus, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God," Jesus renamed him with a title that means "rock." And with that name he gave Peter the mission to be a solid foundation upon which he would build his church. Not Peter's church. Not James or Paul's church. Not Martin Luther's or John Calvin's or anybody else's. This is Jesus' church, the church of Christ himself, that we call the Catholic Church.
So it was Christ himself who desired to give au- thority in the church--"the keys to the kingdom of heaven"--to a human leader. Peter was thus estab- lished as the first pope. He exercised a special kind of headship, within the community of the apostles and the church at large, because Jesus gave him the power to do so, not because Peter claimed it for himself. And so too every pope since, right down to our Holy Father today, exercises this unique leadership within the Church.
What a gift this is to us! Jesus knew well the hu- man tendency to squabble and disagree, to argue and compete. He knew that the church would be prone to all of this because of her members, and that providing a final voice of authority, saying in effect that "the buck stops here" would be helpful for maintaining unity. As Catholics, even in spite of the differing opinions and perspectives that are manifest in the Church, we nonetheless maintain a strong sense of identity and belief thanks in large part to the papacy. Today, may we give thanks for the pope and pray for him as he strives to lead all of us closer and closer to Christ.
La Familia y La Fe
La Iglesia Católica está llena de carne y sangre -el papa, los obispos, los sacerdotes, los diáco- nos, los santos, María. Son personas como no- sotros. Pero no tenemos que preocuparnos.
Jesús nos muestra que la carne y la sangre pue- den ser adornadas con la divinidad. ¡Por eso vino! Dios nunca ha renunciado a la carne y a la sangre, que creó a Su imagen y semejanza.
Sorprendentemente, no tiene miedo de hacer de Pedro la roca de su Iglesia. Jesús garantiza que las fuerzas oscuras de la muerte y el engaño nunca prevalecerán contra su Iglesia de carne y sangre. Señor Jesús, ayúdanos a recordar que para construir una Iglesia humana fue Tu idea;
Ayúdanos a recorrer el camino hacia tu reino y saber que Tú estarás a nuestro lado hasta el final.

Faith and Family
The Catholic Church is full of flesh and blood—the pope, bishops, priests, deacons, the saints, Mary.
They are people like us. But we need not worry.
Jesus shows us flesh and blood can be graced with divinity. That is why he came! God has never giv- en up on flesh and blood, which He created in His own image and likeness. Amazingly, He is not afraid to make Peter the rock of His Church. Jesus guarantees that the dark forces of death and decep- tion will never prevail against His flesh and blood Church. Lord Jesus, help us remember that to build a human Church was Your idea; help us do our part to live your kingdom way and to believe that You will see us through.
