From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Palm Sunday

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of the Holy

Week. It has two aspects: triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and the reading of Jesus’ passion. Judaism believed in dual Jerusalem: earthly and heavenly Jerusalem. The Church is symbolic of New Jerusalem built on the foun-da on stones of the Apostles. Chris ans recall Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem as they enter the church building in procession. Jesus takes refuge in prayer in the midst of the most tes ng period of his life. He also invites his disciples to pray. Jesus prays that he may be able to do the will of God because he could experience an inner war between the flesh and the spirit. The spirit was ready to suffer but the body was not willing. Prayer helps us experience union of body and spirit so that we may be ready to do the will of God. A er fin-ishing his prayer Jesus was ready to meet the challenge of the cross. The disciples fled be-cause they did not pray long enough and deep enough. Jesus invites us to respond to God’s will in the spirit of prayer and submission. Christ entered in triumph into his own city, to complete his work as our Messiah: to suffer, to die, and to rise again. Let us remember with devo on this entry which began his sav-ing work and follow him with a lively faith. United with him in his suffering on the cross, may we share his resurrec on and new life. Fr. Domingo de Ramos

El Domingo de Ramos marca el comienzo de la Semana Santa. Tiene dos aspectos: la entrada triunfal de Jesús en Jerusalén y la lectura de la pasión de Jesús. El Judaísmo cree en el Jerusa-lén terrenal y en el JerusaJerusa-lén celes al . La Igle-sia es símbolo de la Nueva Jerusalén, construi-da sobre los cimientos de los Apóstoles. Los cris anos recuerdan la entrada triunfal de Je-sús a Jerusalén al entrar en procesión juntos como iglesia. Jesús se refugia en la oración en medio del periodo de prueba de su vida. Tam-bién invita a sus discípulos a orar. Jesús ora que para ser capaz de hacer la voluntad de Dios porque él experimenta una guerra inte-rior entre la carne y el espíritu. El espíritu está dispuesto a sufrir, pero el cuerpo no . La ora-ción nos ayuda a experimentar la unión del cuerpo y del espíritu, de modo que estemos dispuestos a hacer la voluntad de Dios. Des-pués de terminar su oración Jesús estaba listo para enfrentar el desa o de la cruz. Los discí-pulos huyeron porque no orar lo suficiente ni profundamente. Jesús nos invita a responder a la voluntad de Dios en espíritu de oración y de presentación. Cristo entró en triunfo en su propia ciudad, para completar su labor como nuestro Mesías: para sufrir, morir y resucitar. Recordemos con devoción esta entrada que comenzó su obra de salvación y seguirlo con una fe viva. Unidos con él en su sufrimiento en la cruz, podemos compar r su resurrección y vida nueva.
