Dear Family of St. Augustine Church;

Blessings to every one of you and your families. Summer is here and it is a good time to make some changes in our parish and weekend Celebrations. It has been couple of year since we implemented a 2nd Collection. Decision was made after serious discussions and truthful considerations among members of the Pastoral and Finance Councils. Desires were to help out our parish founds and make improvements in grounds and buildings. We did it as much as we could.

So, having mentioned that, here are some

upcoming projects that I need you to keep in mind and to be proactive:

 On the weekend of June 30th and July 1st it

will be our last weekend to do our 2nd Collection.

 We are fully renovating our Chapel to make

it a 24/7 Perpetual Adoration. You are more welcome to make a Donation to be directed to this specific project.

 We still in the project of our Diocesan CAMPAIGN Together let us go Forth—

Juntos Sigamos Adelante. Remember that

it is a 5 years commitment.

As your parish priest, from every one of you, I do expect a full thoughtfulness and consideration at the time to make your parish Contributions; be honest with God and donate a little more. A generous collaboration from every family will helps us not to go back to our 2nd _{Collection and to continue making} the appropriate improvements our parish needs. My desire is that ONLY ONE collection will be enough to keep our Church vibrant and functional.

Querida familia de San Agustín;

Bendiciones para cada uno de ustedes y sus familias. El verano ha llegado y es bueno hacer cambios en algunos proyectos y planes parroquiales. Ya han pasado un par de años desde que hemos estado haciendo nuestras 2das. Colectas en las misas Dominicales y eventos especiales. Esa decisión se hizo apoyada por los Consejos Pastoral y Financiero para poder aumentar nuestros fondos parroquiales y hacer arreglos y reparaciones en nuestra parroquia. Hicimos lo que ustedes nos permitieron hacer con sus donaciones económicas. Bien, ya que les he explicado esto, paso a mencionarles lo siguiente:

 El fin de semana de Junio 30/Julio 1ro será nuestro último fin de semana que haremos nuestra 2da. Colecta.

 Renovaremos completamente nuestra Capilla para poder tener al Santísimo 24 horas al día. Con el favor de Dios, será Capilla de Adoración Perpetua. Si desean hacer una contribución económica para esta capilla, hágalo en la oficina.

 Seguimos en el proyecto de la Campaña:

Together let us go Forth—Juntos Sigamos Adelante. Recuerden que es un compromiso

con Dios de 5 años.

Como su párroco, lo que deseo de cada uno de ustedes, especialmente aquellos que trabajan les pido que sean honestos delante de Dios y hagan su ofrenda con generosidad. Si todos lo hacemos, no regresaremos a la rutina de la 2da. Colecta y así mantendremos nuestra Iglesia y parroquia en mejores condiciones. Mi deseo es que UNA sola Colecta sea suficiente para mantenernos mejor como parroquia y comunidad.

THE NATIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

Reflection in preparation for the next weekend’s Gospel Tiny fingers and toes. A little yawn. A loud cry. An infant wrapped in swaddling clothes. "What will this child be?" It is a question every parent asks time and time again. As first steps are taken, as personalities emerge, as a child shows interest in reading or drawing or climbing, the question is on our lips. "What will this child be?" This question is asked as John the Baptist is born. Will he be a priest like his father? Does his strange, unexpected name signal a departure from that inheritance? Could Elizabeth and Zechariah ever have predicted what would be?

Under the tutelage of his priestly father, John "became strong in spirit." As an adult, John would retreat into the desert to preach repentance. He would attract a large following and eventually attract the attention of the rulers of the day. He would point out the adulterous ways of King Herod and would find himself in prison. Eventually, he would be beheaded. But today, he is a child, an infant newly born.

On this special feast, we're reminded of the great humility required of parents. The character formation, the discipline and encouragement, the violin lessons and soccer practices ? every parental effort is subjected to the decisions of the child himself. Even children on a sure track by high school graduation transform under life's circumstances. Entrusting our children to God can be incredibly intimidating. "What will this child be," especially when that transformation lies outside of my control? John the Baptist's story might not have ended as his parents imagined. But he is celebrated as the greatest of the prophets, as the one who prepared the way for the Messiah. Here is the hope of all Christian parents -- that our children would be raised in such a way that when people meet them, they meet Jesus Christ.

Natividad de san juan bautista

En preparación para la lectura de la siguiente semana

Pero el ángel le dijo: "No temas, Zacarías". (Lc. 1:13). Por aquello del miedo de encontrar a Dios en la vida y que revele cosas que no se comprenden de inmediato. El Evangelio nos dice que Zacarías se turbó al verlo, y el temor se apoderó de él. ¿Qué hubieras hecho tú en lugar de Zacarías? ¿Cuál

hubiera sido tu respuesta? Para iluminar la respuesta, tenemos la luz de las palabras del Papa Francisco, que nos dan pequeñas pautas a seguir en la Solemnidad de hoy. Dijo él: "Los días más largos del año; los días que tienen más luz, porque en las tinieblas de aquel tiempo Juan era el hombre de la luz: no de una luz propia, sino de una luz reflejada. Como una luna. Y cuando Jesús comenzó a predicar, la luz de Juan empezó a disiparse, a disminuir, a desvanecerse. Él mismo lo dice con claridad al hablar de su propia misión. Es necesario que Él crezca y yo mengüe" (Lunes 24 de junio de 2013).

Juan Bautista fue el gran profeta y el heraldo de Jesús el Mesías. Preparó el camino del Señor revelando a Jesús a otros como el Mesías y como el Cordero de Dios. San Juan ejemplifica la vida del cristiano que proclama el mensaje de salvación y arrepentimiento. Se enfoca en la dirección correcta, vuelve la mirada hacia el Cordero de Dios y se une sin reservas a él. El destino de San Juan estaba escrito, y lo llevó a cabo con dignidad desde el comienzo hasta el final. Ahora es el turno de los seguidores de Jesús de anunciarlo al mundo que sufre y que busca la justicia. ¡San Juan Bautista ruega por nosotros! Para que seamos fieles anunciadores del Reino de Dios.

THAT Ending

“Infinity War” ends with a huge cliffhanger: Thanos actually succeeds and eliminates half of the population of the world!

We see what happens when Thanos gets what he wants as we wait with baited breath as some of our fa-vorite heroes quite literally vanish from the screen. There were audible gasps in the theater, including my own, as some of the best heroes vanished from existence. As fans, we feel the weight of the loss of our favorite heroes. I mean, can you even imagine a world in which Black Panther doesn’t exist?

When life isn’t honored as truly sacred and is done away with for the sake of lesser goods, we lose true heroes. We lose stories. We lose people who can change the world. That’s the price we pay. That’s exactly what we lose when we destroy the beauty of the individual. I am invited to defend human life on a daily basis because I recognize the tragedy it would be if someone was wiped away from existence.

We cannot let a culture that subscribes to this type of thinking prevail, even if it’s on a small scale. We have to recognize and promote the dignity of every individual we encounter in our day-to-day life if we want to defeat the culture of death. We must stand up for those in our world who are tossed aside, for-gotten, and neglected. Heroes defend life — no matter what — because they understand the importance of the existence of human beings. We too came to understand this as we watched our favorite heroes van-ish from the big screen, helpless, in jeopardy, and needing to be save. And ultimately, that’s what we learn from “Avengers: Infinity War.”
