What does it mean to say a person is a Catechist?

The dictionary describes the word “Catechist” as “A teacher of the principles of Christian Religion”

Fr. John Francis Murphy, wrote: A Catechist is: An ordinary person who is extraordinary, because he or she teaches as Jesus taught. A sign of Christian hope in a world turned in on itself. An expression of the mission entrusted by Jesus to God’s people. The “good news” in flesh and blood in today’s humanity. Proof that someone is still wise enough to care about all the most important things in life. The backbone of the Mystical Body of Christ and the guarantee that the Bible will be printed tomorrow.

Sacred Heart is so blessed to have catechists serving our parish. People who are very busy, who have no time for themselves, yet somehow they find the time for other people’s children who come to learn about the love of God and our Faith.

They are the gems of our parish, faithful to the past, open to the future, dedicated to deepening the faith of the present generation by making Jesus come alive to the young and old alike, who otherwise, would not hear of Him at home.

They bring faith, hope and love to so many of us and they are the reason I can sleep at night. To these special people, who possess the wisdom of caring for what truly matters in life. I extend my utmost gratitude and love. Please keep our catechists and their aides in your prayers:

The Faith Formation program is always in need of catechists and aides. Catechists are called by God to serve. Are you hearing that call? To be a Catechist all that is needed is a true love for God and the willingness to help and learn. We train and provide support.

Entrenamos y proporcionamos apoyo. This is our final Sunday of our fiscal year. As you can see, we are behind in the amount we budgeted for 2013-14. Now is a good time to “make up” your stewardship of treasure if you’ve been inconsistent this year.

SCHOOL PLAYGROUND - This is the last weekend to contribute to our Playground/Parking lot

Transformation. We are almost at our goal. We’ve had a wonderful

response, and some very positive comments (and a few clunkers too).

We are thrilled to have gotten this done with a one very generous gift and

many very generous parishioners. Please consider adding your name and

offering to the long list of contributors. Our Heavenly Father continues to

bless the work at our Parish and School.

Dear Sacred Heart Families,

Catholic education is central to our faith. It is how we convey

what we know and value to others. At Sacred Heart

School and in our diocese, we prepare our students for life

and for heaven. We are not just a building, but a community

of teachers, learners and families all working together to

provide something unique and special for our children. We

are dedicated to a Catholic education, however, many of our

families face financial challenges and have difficulty

providing their children with what they feel is important. We

are asking that you consider making a donation during the 5th

Sunday Collection, any amount, to help provide financial

assistance for some of these families. It is a wonderful opportunity for parents to provide a quality Catholic

education for their children, so if you find it in your heart to help, it would be greatly appreciated. You are

welcome to visit Sacred Heart School anytime to see the wonderful community we have!

Respectfully in Christ,

Connie Rossi-Rains, Principal

Or, are you still in need, as an adult, of completing your sacramental initiation through First Eucharist and/or Confirmation? You’ll want to take part in our annual Catechumenate process or Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) which is scheduled to start in later September. Interested? Have questions? Call the parish office and set up an appointment with a member of the RCIA team to begin the process.
