ACADEMIC INFORMATION

Language of Instruction Predominantly Spanish with a limited selection of courses in English.

Students are required to have an intermediate to advanced level of Spanish.

We offer classes of Spanish as a foreign language for international students who have an intermediate level and wish to improve it while attending to their regular classes. This class has 3 credits.

Course Load

4-6 courses per semester

Each course has 3 American Credits, equivalent to 48 hours of classes

Grading Scale from 1 to 10 (must receive a 7.5 or above to pass):

• 9 - 10: Excellent

• 8.4 - 8.99: Very good

• 7.9 - 8.39: Good

• 7.45 - 7.89: Satisfactory

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Housing If the students prefer to stay independently, there are options like student houses and hostels available. The option to rent a bedroom or suite is also suitable.

International students can also stay with families related to the university, like the families of our students, staff or others close to the Casa Grande Community. The cost of living in a family includes half board.

Fees

*All fees subject to fluctuation based on seasonal prices.

 Independent (hostel, student houses, etc.): $300-450 monthly

 Home Stay: $2020 per semester

Travel The Department of International Relations and Mobility offers guidance to travel within Ecuador and nearby places. The Inbound Coordinator advises our international students about places to stay, transportation, prices and security measures.

Visa Incoming students in programs with less than 180 days of duration do not require obtaining a student visa (12-V) in an Ecuadorian Consulate or Embassy;

they will be able to enter the country as tourists for 90 days. After this period has expired, the students must apply for an extension of their tourist visa in order to finish the semester.

Students in programs with over 180 days of duration MUST obtain a student visa (12-V) in the closest Ecuadorian Consulate or Embassy.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Volunteer opportunities In Guayaquil, there are numerous opportunities for students to participate in volunteer projects and Service-Learning internships. Areas range from environment to health services and even education

Orientation Session UCG offers a mandatory orientation session for international students. We recommend that students arrive at least 4 days before the beginning of the semester in order to attend the session, do their course registration, among other activities. All details will be provided by the Inbound Coordinator via email: [email protected]
