Term Tests for 11th grade will take place from MONDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER to THURSDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER. The schedule for 11th grade Term Tests is the following.

I. ENGLISH LANGUAGE:- 11TH GRADE

11TH GRADE

ASLEVEL ENGLISH LANGUAGE 9093- JOHN

PAPER 1 : Commentary on use of language and style within the passage(s)

Identify distinguishing features of the texts, relate them to the function and context of the writing, and organize information in their answers.

 Comment on aspects such as vocabulary, figurative language (e.g. use of

metaphor and simile), word ordering and sentence structure, formality/informality of tone, and the communication of attitudes, bias or prejudice, structure

 Write for a specific purpose and/or audience using appropriate vocabulary, tone, and style.

PAPER 2 : Composition – : Imaginative writing (narrative/descriptive) Writing for an audience (discursive/argumentative)

Students will select composition topics from the categories presented in the prompts. 600 TO 900 word responses. AS Level style ¨Paper 2¨ writing.

Section A: Imaginative writing (narrative/descriptive)

 Answer one question from Section A and one question from Section B.  All questions carry equal marks.

Exercise 1. Students will read a short text and answer a series of questions testing skim-/gist-reading skills. Candidates write short (single word/phrase) answers.  Exercise 2. Students will read a text and answer a series of questions testing more

detailed comprehension.

Exercise 3 Form exercise. Students will complete a form using a textual biographic background passage.

 Exercise 4 : Note Taking .Use a highlighter . Use bullet points at the beginning of each line and write short answers that fit the space on the line. Although your answer must be short, make sure you include all the key information

 Exercise 5 : Summary writing. Students will write a summary about an aspect or aspects of the passage. Remember no introduction or conclusion and use linking words to write a summary. Include all the key facts, this will mean looking again at the entire text and underlining relevant points. If you use your own words instead of copying from the text, you have more chance of getting a higher mark.  Exercise 6 : Writing prompt. Students will write approximately 100–150 words

of continuous prose, in response to a short stimulus (which may take the form of pictures) and/or short prompts printed on the paper. The question includes information on the purpose, format and audience.

 Exercise 7 : Informal writing - Review how to write Descriptive and Advice letters.

Twelfth Night

The main focus of the play will be on orsino´s characterisation throughout the play so students are expected to read the play again and pay close attention to the following scenes:

 Act I Scene I  Act II scene IV  Act V scene I

 You are expected to read and understand Orsino´s language, tone and action in these scenes.

 Focus on how his character develops from the beginning of the play to the end of Act V.

The Dilemma of a Ghost and Anowa

You will be questioned on the play, Anowa

Main focus should be on Phase Two and Phase Three of the play. Important aspects to consider:

 Language, tone and action of the characters  Anowa´s characterisation
