We are excited to announce the second annual Burnt Mills ES READ-A-THON! The Read-A-Thon allows our children to raise money for our school without having to sell anything. Plus, the Read-A-Thon celebrates the FUN of reading and encourages our kids to read every day!
Our goal is to raise money to buy more books for our school library and to support our school with fun/educational activities and programs.
All children who participate in the Read-A-Thon will receive a prize! Additional prizes will be awarded to children who read the most minutes or who raise the most money. Plus, the classes with the greatest number of students participating will also win class prizes.
Here is how the Read-A-Thon works to raise money for our school:
Once they receive this packet, students should ask family members to sponsor them for the Read-A-Thon. Students should use the included Sponsorship Form to track their sponsors. The sponsors have three choices of how to fund students: pay by minute read, pay a flat fee for total minutes read or pay by minute read with a cap on the total amount. For instance, a sponsor may decide to give a student 5 cents for each minute read or a sponsor might give a student 5 cents for each minute read with a cap at $20.
Many sponsors are able to collect matching funds from their employers since Read-A-Thon is a charity. Please ask your child’s sponsors to inquire about this! All donations are 100% tax-deductible! Tax receipts are provided within this packet for you to give to your sponsors.
On December 19th the Read-A-Thon begins! Students should use the included minute recording sheet to track the minutes they read outside of school hours. Please see the included Read-A-Thon rules sheet for details recording minutes.
On January 6th, the Read-A-Thon ends. Students should count up their total minutes read and collect money from their sponsors. Collected money and the minute recording sheet as well as the sponsor form and the signed code of conduct should be put in an envelope with the name of your teacher no later than January 13th.
***FORMS SHOULD NOT BE SUBMITTED WITHOUT MONEY***
All students who participate and turn in their forms by January 13th are eligible to win prizes. Forms and money collected after January 13th will be accepted but not counted towards the individual and class prizes. Students can turn in their forms/ money to their teachers or you may bring it to the main office.

Nos encontramos muy emocionados de anunciar el segundo maratón anual de lectura de la escuela primaria Burnt Mills. Este gran maratón le permite a nuestros niños a recaudar fondos para la escuela sin tener que vender nada. Además, el maratón celebra la diversión de la lectura y motivación hacia nuestros hijos de leer todos los días. Nuestro objetivo es reunir dinero para comprar más libros para la librería de la escuela y para las actividades y programas recreativos/educacionales.

Así es cómo funciona el maratón de lectura para recaudación de fondos de la escuela:.
Una vez que reciban este paquete, los estudiantes deberán preguntar a los miembros de familia que los patrocinen para el maratón de lectura. Los estudiantes deberán usar las formas de registro para tener un control de lo que vayan recaudando. Los patrocinadores tendrán tres formas de ayudar a los estudiantes: pagar por minutos de lectura, pagar por tarifa de lectura, o pagar por minuto leído en la cantidad total. Por ejemplo, un patrocinador puede decidir dar a un estudiante .5 centavos por cada minuto leído. O puede dar al estudiante .5 centavos por cada minuto leído con un límite de $20 Dólares.
Muchos patrocinadores podrán colectar fondos de sus empleadores ya que el maratón de lectura es una recaudación de fondos. Por favor pregunte a los patrocinadores de sus hijos informarse en relación a esto. Todas las donaciones son 100% libre de impuestos. Se deberán recolectar el dinero, la hoja de registro de minutos leídos al igual que el registro de patrocinadores, también la hoja firmada del código de conducta deberá ser firmada y entregada dentro de un sobre con el nombre de el/la profesor/a como fecha límite el 13 de Enero de 2017. **NINGUN FORMATO DEBERA SER ENTREGADO SIN DINERO**
Todos los estudiantes que participen y entreguen sus formatos antes del 13 de Enero de 2017 eran candidatos a elección para ganar los premios. Los formatos y el dinero recaudado después del 8 de Enero será aceptado pero no contara para participar en los premios de cada clase. Los estudiantes podrán entregar los formatos y el dinero a sus profesores o en la oficina principal de la escuela.

Start reading and recording your minutes on Monday, December 19th. The last day to READ is Friday, January6th. Use your minute Recording Sheet to keep track of the time spent reading or being read to. Be sure to log the actual time of day you read as well as the total minutes spent reading. For instance, 5:00-5:30pm, for a total of 30 minutes.
Read and sign the included Code of Conduct sheet and have your parents sign as well.
You may read books, comic books, short stories, poems, magazines, or newspapers. You may read online.
Here is what counts towards your minutes:
• Reading by yourself
• Reading to someone else
• Reading aloud or reading silently
• Having someone read to you
• Reading before school or after school
• Reading on the bus, in the car, or at HORIZON/ after care.
• Reading a book for homework
• Attending the Reading Night at the White Oak Library gives you 20 bonus points! Here is what DOES NOT count towards your minutes:
• Reading before Monday, December 19th.
• Reading after Friday, January 6th • Reading during school hours
• Playing video games
Please remember that CHARACTER COUNTS – be honest with your minutes so that the Read-A-Thon will be fair and fun for everyone! Remember that your parents will need to initial your minutes on the Minute Recording Sheet.
All students who track their minutes fairly and turn in their forms on time will be eligible for prizes. All forms must be turned in by Friday, January 13th.
REGLAS DEL MARATON DE LECTURA
Comiencen a leer y a registrar los minutos de lectura el Lunes 19 de Diciembre, el último día de lectura será el 6 de Enero de 2017.
Usen la hoja de minutos de lectura para tener registro de tiempo que están leyendo. Asegúrense de registrar el día y minutos leídos. Por ejemplo de 5 a 5:30 pm, da un total de 30 minutos.
Leer y firmar la hoja del código de conducta y entregar a los padres y/o tutores también.
Puedes leer libros, comics, historias cortas, poemas, revistas, periódicos. Incluso puedes leer en línea.
Así es como debes de registrar tus minutos: • Leer tu solo
• Leer en compañía de alguien más
• Leer en voz alta o en silencio
• Que alguien lea para ti/por ti
• Leer antes o después de clases
• Leer en el autobús, en el auto, en HORIZON/o en donde te encuentres después de clase
• Leer un libro como parte de tu tarea
• Asistir a una noche de lectura en la librería de White Oak, esto te dará 20 puntos más
Esto no cuenta como minutos leídos: • Leer antes del lunes 19 de Diciembre
• Leer después del 6 de Enero
• Leer durante horas de clase
• Jugar videojuegos
Por favor recuerden que honestidad es lo que cuenta. Se honesto con los minutos que lees para que el maratón de lectura sea justo y divertido para todos. No olvides que tus padres/tutores necesitaran firmar los minutos que estés leyendo en el formato de registro de minutos de lectura.

4 Pledges = 1 homework pass and a book with your name in the “Burnt Mills Read-A-Thon Hall of Fame Wall.”
8 Pledges = 1 homework pass, a book with your name in the “Burnt Mills Read-A-Thon Hall of Fame Wall” and a Surprise Coupon.
GOLD – The student with the overall highest reading minutes with a minimum of 1,500 minutes will win a $100 amazon gift card (If there are multiple students- their names will be entered into a drawing, and a winning student will be randomly selected.)
SILVER - The student with the 2nd highest overall minutes read with a minimum of 1,000
minutes will win a $75 amazon gift card (If there are multiple students – their names will be entered into a drawing, and a winning student will be randomly selected.)
BRONZE - The student with the 3rd highest overall minutes read with a minimum of 750 minutes will win a $50 amazon gift card. (If there are multiple students – their names will be entered into a drawing, and a winning student will be randomly selected.)

Kinder garden a 5to grado= El estudiante con más minutos leídos, con un mínimo de 750 minutos, ganará una tarjeta Amazon de regalo con $35 dólares. Si hay más de un estudiante por clase, el premio se sorteará y el ganador será elegido por azar.
