Did you know that bullying is a form of abuse, and there-fore is forbidden in our Catholic schools? Bullying typically consists of direct behaviors, such as teasing, taunting, threatening, hitting, shoving and stealing. But it might also be indirect, such as spreading rumors that cause victims to be socially isolated through intentional exclusion. Cyberbullying, which involves the use of the Internet or
mobile phones to send inappropriate messages and images to or about others, is also behavior that is not
toler-ated in our Catholic schools. If you suspect bullying of a child at school, please contact the school principal with your concerns.

Es difícil decir cuántas personas mayores en los Estados Unidos sufren de abuso, negligencia o explotación, en gran parte no se pone atención y a consecuencia el problema permanece oculto. One summer day in Florida, a boy decided to go for a dip in a pond. Jumping into the cool water, he did not see the alligator that was moving toward him. Nearby, his father caught sight of the reptile and ran toward his son, yelling loudly to swim ashore. The boy got close enough for his father to grab his wrists, as the alliga-tor clamped onto his calves. The alligaalliga-tor was powerful, but the father refused to let go. A passing farmer heard the commotion, raced to the water, and shot the alligator. Weeks of hospital treat-ment followed. The boy’s legs were deeply scarred, and his arms bore deep scratches from his father’s fingernails. A reporter asked to see the youngster’s scars. He lifted his pant legs and then said proudly “But look at my arms. I have great scars on them because my Dad wouldn’t give up or let go.”
