Unas palabras del Párroco Queridos feligreses
En nombre de todos quienes hacen de esta parroquia una bella casa espiritual, quiero felicitar una vez más a Dolores y Antonio Villalobos por sus 51 años de matrimonio. Dolores y Tony celebraron su 51 aniversario matrimonial el pasado domingo 9 a las 3:00 p.m. acompañados por sus hijos, nietos, familiares, amigos y algunos sacerdotes que conocen a los Villalobos por más de medio siglo. Ellos son un gran ejemplo para todos nosotros y quizás queramos preguntarles como hicieron para llevar 51 años de vida juntos. Tony también celebró el pasado 10 de diciembre, 35 años sirviendo a la Arquidiócesis y a San Marcos como diacono. Me siento admirado por el servicio y dedicación que han mostrado el uno al otro y por su gran servicio a la parroquia de San Marcos. Felicidades y muchas gracias.
Ahora quiero compartir con ustedes una reflexión por Rosie Villalobos sobre la vida de Dolores y Tony.
“Dolores y Tony se conocieron de jóvenes aquí en Chicago, se casaron y comenzaron una familia. Tuvieron ocho hijos. 5 niños y 3 niñas y desde el inicio, esos niños formaron parte de la familia de San Marcos: bautismo, primera comunión, confirmación y matrimonio.
Además esos niños estudiaron en la escuela de San Marcos, formaron y aun forman parte del coro; fueron monaguillos y miembros de todos los programas y grupos que San Marcos tenia para ofrecer.
Dolores colaboró en el consejo de la escuela, trabajó en el programa de almuerzos y cocinó para los bailes de la parroquia.
Fueron muchos los bailadores que comenzaban en la puerta de entrada y terminaban en la cocina ayudando a Dolores a limpiar y bailando con ella mientras Tony recibía los boletos y dirigía el bar.
Dolores y Tony trabajaron muy duro para criar a sus 8 hijos y en el camino ayudaron a criar alrededor de 40 otros niños que Dolores cuidó. Un gran número de los jóvenes de la parroquia fueron de una forma u otra parte de la extensa familia Villalobos. Ellos fueron a la escuela de la parroquia y luego iban a casa de Lolin y Tony después de la escuela donde recibían algún dulce y algunas veces una cena para luego completar sus tareas en aquella mesa que alcanzaba para 11 o más niños a la vez.
Tony estaba envuelto en el aquel entonces Caballeros de San Juan, ahora nuestro Grupo Puertorriqueño, y cumplió el pasado 10 de diciembre 35 años de haber sido ordenado diacono. Pero no solo como diacono, sino como matrimonio diaconal, y con ello todo el entrenamiento y sacrificio necesario para llevar a cabo un ministerio ejemplar.
Esta pareja maravillosa que yo llamo Mom y Pop, son los abuelos de mis hijos y de 9 nietos mas. Ellos son bisabuelos de 4 y para muchos de nosotros que los queremos ellos son Mom y Pop o Lolin y Tony. Ellos han sido los mejores maestros/ejemplos de unidad y del llamado a servir, que para mi es un privilegio conocerlos.
51 años juntos “en la salud y en la enfermedad”: esta frase ha sido puesta a prueba y ellos están aun juntos en un visible amor que brilla como una luz y que nos muestra el camino en que se basa una buena vida sabiendo que estamos llamados a servir. Esta luz brilló con más intensidad el pasado domingo cuando alrededor de 100 familiares y amistades se reunieron para celebrar el tardío pero no pospuesto 50 aniversario. Ellos renovaron los votos que han sido visibles para nosotros y sacerdotes y antiguos amigos vinieron a ser testigos del gran triunfo de una profunda fe en Dios de que tendrían una celebración si Dios se los permitía. Mom y Pop están llamados a servir y nosotros estamos llamados a seguir en alguna medida su ejemplo.”

A Word from The pastor Dear Parishioners
On behalf of all of you who make this parish a lovely spiritual home, I would like to congratulate once again Dolores and Antonio Villalobos for their 51 years of marriage.
Dolores and Tony celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary last Sunday 09, 07 at 3:00 p.m. accompanied by all their children, grandchildren, family members, friends and some priests who have known the Villalobos for more that half a century.
They are a wonderful example for all of us and perhaps we might want to ask them how they managed to keep their life together for 51 years. Tony also celebrated, last Monday, December 10, 07 his 35th anniversary of serving the Archdiocese and St. Mark as a deacon.
I am humbled by their service and dedication to one another and for their 100 % of service to the parish of St. Mark. Congratulations and thank you. Now I would like to share with you Rosie Villalobos’
reflection on the life of Dolores and Tony.
“Dolores and Tony met as young people here in the city of Chicago, married, and began a family. This family numbered eight.
5 boys and 3 girls and from the beginning those children were brought into the family of St. Mark: Baptism, 1st Communion, Confirmation and Marriage. In between these children attended St.
Mark School and were and still are choir members, altar servers, and members of all the different programs and groups St. Mark has to offer.
Dolores served on the School Board, worked the lunch program, and cooked for the church dances. There were many dancers who started through the front door and ended in the kitchen helping Mom clean up and dancing with her while Pop collected tickets and worked the bar.
Mom and Pop worked very, very hard to raise their 8 children and in the process helped raise over 40 other children which Mom took care of babysitting. A great number of the young adults here at St. Mark were at one time or another members of the Villalobos extended family. They went to school here and then went to Lolin’s and Tony’s after school where they received a snack and sometimes dinner and then had to complete their homework at a table that could hold 11 or more children at a time.
Tony was involved in the then Caballeros de San Juan, our own Puerto Rican Committee, and was ordained a deacon 35 years ago this past Monday December 10, 2007. But not just a Deacon, but a Deacon Couple, and with that, all the training and sacrifices that are required to do really good ministry.
This amazing couple that I call Mom & Pop are my children’s grandparents and grandparents to 9 more. They are great- grandparent’s to 4 and Mom & Pop or Lolin and Tony to too many of us to count. They have been the very best teachers/an example of unity and the call to serve that it has been my privilege to know.
51 years together “in sickness and in health”: this phrase has been put to the test and they are still together in an obvious love that shines like a light that shows us the way to a good life based on the knowledge that we are called to serve. This light shown very brightly this past Sunday when over 100 friends and family gathered to celebrate the delayed but not postponed 50th Anniversary. They renewed vows that they have exemplified and past priests and old friends came to witness this great triumph of a deep belief in God that there would be a celebration if he so willed it. Mom and Pop are called to serve and we are called to follow in some small measure their example.”
