RIBERA DEL DUERO, BEST WINE REGION IN THE WORLD
The Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero has received this award from the critics and experts who make up the jury for the Wine Star Awards, prizes conceded by the prestigious publication Wine Enthusiast.
Ribera del Duero has received the Wine Star Award as Best Wine Region in the World 2012. This prize is awarded by Wine Enthusiast magazine, and on this occasion the other candidates were Napa Valley (USA), Cape Winelands (South Africa), Walla Walla Valley (USA) and the Loire Valley (France).
These prestigious awards are considered the Oscars of the world of wine, and Ribera del Duero received the support of the jury, made up of editors, critics and journalists linked to his magazine, which is a leader in oenological information.
These experts commended the "historical and traditional ways of getting the best out of the Tempranillo grape" of the Designation of Origin, and acknowledged the great possibilities for Ribera wines on international markets and the profile that the region has attained.
In the opinion of the jury, the progress of the campaign "Drink Ribera, Drink Spain"
has contributed to both realities, and the campaign "has given international recognition to this zone, making it into one of the experts' favourites around the world".

"Sales of our wines continue to rise despite the crisis, we have consolidated our share of the Spanish market, and are opening up new international markets. The United States has become the principal export destination for the wineries of Ribera del Duero, and international consumers are starting to get to know us and trust in us".
