INDEPENDENCE ELEMENTARY HOME OF THE PATRIOTS

Welcome New PTO Officers!

From the Principal :

Dear Independence Families,

Independence is looking forward to success! Our classrooms continue to focus on morning meetings and closing circles to continue to create a comfortable, safe, thriving learning environment! Did you know that our three expectations are “Show Kindness with your Words and Actions, Make Safe Choices and Take Care of our School?” When you ask your child what they did in school, make sure they can tell you what the learning target was and/or what the success criteria was for the subject! Teachers focus on speaking the language of learning so your child can speak to their own learning. Our students also set goals for themselves and should know what level they are reading.

Please consider being a part of our PTO! Our students benefit the joy of being a part of a fun

school!! If you are creative and have time to volunteer- we would love to have you on board! Let the school know if you are interested!

We’d like you to take the time to let us know how we are doing – please go to our website and look for the 5Essentials link! http://survey.5-

essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/

Please continue to help keep our students SAFE by being respectful and mindful of driving habits in our parking lot. The weather can be tricky. We are all here to make sure we have a fluid dismissal with safety in mind. Use of cell phones is prohibited by law.

Thank you for your trust and support as we all work together to make the best learning experience for your child(ren).

Sincerely,

Jackie Mitchem, Principal IND
