Using sensory details in narrative writing allows the reader to visualize and feel what is happening in the story. Using figurative language in narrative writing helps bring the reader into the story. If applicable, students should create dialogue between characters and punctuate a piece of narrative writing.
Students are expected to establish exposition at the beginning of the narrative section. Students are expected to create a descending action after the climax in the narrative piece is reached. Students are expected to use sensory details to create depth in a narrative piece.
Students will follow the writing process by prescribing, drafting, editing, revising, and publishing the final written narrative. Students will incorporate rich words, powerful phrases, and sensory details to bring narrative writing to life. Students will use a variety of sentence structures to create flow through the organization of a narrative piece of writing.
Writing Workshop/Narrative Writing ‐ Students will transfer and apply their understanding of narrative text structure and the use of text elements to create a narrative writing piece that aligns with the PA Core Standards of Writing.
