This is an effective way to create cleavages. For example, someone obtains secrets of the United States and sells them to another nation.

Someone else takes secrets from Russia and sells them to another nation.

The secrets of private citizens are obtained and sold. In this way the dark forces can create bad relationships between people. This is their goal.

When bad relationships are created you no longer have right human relations.

This is what the dark forces want. They are against unity and understanding because in unity and understanding they cannot live. They cannot set up business in unity and understanding.

22. Dark forces work for the prevention of future vision. Most dark forces try to prevent your eyes from looking to the future. Dark forces work in the present. For example, they say, “Just enjoy it now. This is life.

Enjoy, eat, have, do. There is nothing else.” If you talk about the future they ridicule you and create confusion in your mind so that you no longer think about the future.

Once you stop thinking about the future you become an earthbound criminal.

Observe your friends. Those who are preventing the future are not really your friends; they are not really working for your own good. Someone might say,

“Forget the future. We are here now. Let’s enjoy it.” Such a person is working for the past, and the past means evil. The past belongs to evil; the future belongs to Light. Observe whether a person is working for the past or for the future.

When you read magazines, books, or newspapers, observe if the author is bringing your attention to the future or to your past failures. If he focuses on your past failures, he is a servant of darkness. Dark forces never focus on the beauty of the future. They have no future. Darkness dwells only in the past.

Question: What about people who study archaeology or history?

Answer: To study archaeology or history does not mean to live in the past, just as to study the phenomenon of cancer does not mean to have cancer.

History is either unbiased or it is changed by nations or historians for many reasons. In archaeology we see the path of life; we see causes of our failures and successes and the results of our education and creativity.

The present recorded history of humanity is a history of the crimes we committed. Read it and you will see that it is mostly crime. From the viewpoint of the future, many of our national heroes would be considered criminals because their heroism was achieved by killing others to make their nations greater. In future judgments people will ask, “Why did you do that?

Your right hand was killing your left hand, and you were enjoying it.” When a person has the consciousness of the whole he will say, “That was stupid. I was cutting my right hand with my left hand.”

In a true historical account, we would see the psychology of leaders and people and learn precious lessons that could be used in the future. But unfortunately, most often the history of an event is not written by someone who is able to see things as they really were, and the author is often commissioned by those who have personal gain and interest tied into

presenting history in a specific way.

Archaeological treasures do not belong to the past but to the ever-existing present. We are advised in esoteric literature not to look back at the past and not to be attached to the past, but people do not usually understand this advice. It means simply that one must not be trapped in his past failures, successes, limitations, wealth, or with his painful relationships with certain people. Instead, one must press forward with a spirit of adventure and striving and, with full spirit and mind, forge ahead toward greater success and achievement.

Comment: One of the great early American historians wrote history showing how God’s Plan was being worked out through the American nation. Current historians say to ignore him, that he was wrong, superstitious, and not on the right track.

Answer: According to your own interests you approve or disapprove of things, which does not mean that you are right or wrong. You must have principles. Measure what you write and speak according to those principles.

If you do not have any principles, you will be just like a pendulum, swinging from side to side. We know that one of evil’s techniques is to destroy the principles within you.

What is a principle? Let us take one very clear principle — unity of the family — as an example. Nothing must interfere with family unity. If you do not have this principle in your essence, which the church brings through its prayers and blessings at the time of marriage or which the judge impresses upon you at that time, then you lack this principle. You act every which way according to various stimuli, urges, and drives. You must first have a principle upon which to base your judgment. A principle is always prosurvival, individually or in a group.

Principles stand behind the law because the law is a translation of those principles. This is what laws are. If the law says not to drive over fifty-five miles per hour and you speed, you are doing wrong. If there is no law, then you are doing neither wrong nor right. You can go one hundred miles per hour or one mile per hour if there is no law.

Why are laws established? Let us make a general statement and say that laws exist to give everyone a chance to be happy and protected. This is the principle. What is the law? All the regulations and rules that we make to provide for and protect our principles are the laws. That is why we say that every human being must have principles, and those principles must be based

in spiritual realms, like those principles found in great religions, great traditions, or in great scientific discoveries.

Question: Sometimes dark forces can get into a nation and pass laws which contradict principles. What about this?

Answer: Exactly. For instance, a special interest group can infiltrate into a legislative committee and create certain laws favoring its own future advancement and destruction of group members which the committee represents. This happens in every nation and in many organizations. This is especially noticeable before revolutions. Evil ones create the kinds of laws in which their crimes cannot be caught. But generally speaking, the law must be obeyed because ninety percent of the law is good for humanity. In the Bible it says, “Follow the laws of the nation. Do not break the laws of the nation.” In some way, national laws are under the guidance of Divine Will. Where are the defects coming from? They come when we misuse and misapply the law.

Mistranslation of the law or misusing it through various means of power creates suffering. A judge once told me that fifty judges will meet sometimes for as long as five hundred days to define one word. That word is law now, but before it was defined it could have been misinterpreted.

The origin of law is based on benefiting every human being. Sometimes, however, people distort this original purpose. Fanatics and special interest groups can create laws biased in their favor, as mentioned earlier. For example, the laws of a little country in the Middle East were changed in such a way that the king suddenly realized that all the laws were against him. To counter this, the king changed all the laws to support his wishes. This is another extreme.
