REMEDY DESCRIPTION
Medorrhinum is an interesting and complex personality type. There is of-ten a of-tendency in Medorrhinum for being extreme on every level; from the level of emotional intensity to the fact that there are usually very opposite qualities present in the same person. Medorrhinum can be rude, harsh, cruel and selfish one moment, and sweet, compassionate, affectionate and full of care and sympa-thy the next. One moment he is concerned about trifles; the next moment he doesn’t care. He doesn’t try to suppress his negative side, like Anacardium tends to do. He can easily switch from one state of mind to another, and back again, depending on what is happening in his life each moment.
Medorrhinum is a passionate, impulsive spirit who is always ready for new adventures. Fortunately for him, he tends to recover remarkably well from all the troubles he gets himself into, and he doesn‘t dwell much on issues that he leaves behind.
Medorrhinum doesn’t have a very strong sense of self. He isn’t sure of his identity, and he sometimes feels confused and can’t tell what is real. Strange things may seem familiar, and sometimes he may feel like he is in a dream. He fears that someone is behind him, or that someone is touching his head, and he doesn’t always feel emotionally stable. In addition, Medorrhinums often have strong clairvoyant abilities. Having a weak sense of identity with a general lack of boundaries is a common trait for anyone who has psychic ability. This is because psychics receive their information from other dimensions, and this can only happen if their personal boundaries aren’t too strongly defined.
Medorrhinum’s psychic ability is interesting; it mainly has to do with the ability to accurately predict disagreeable events, like someone‘s impending death. Now, why would he have the ability to predict someone’s impending death? It must have something to do with what originally happened to
rhinum, and now it has become part of the core story associated with Medor-rhinum’s remedy profile. In this story, Medorrhinum is predicting the death of someone he is close to, and he is worried about what the consequences of this person’s death is going to be in his own life. He is basically predicting, or antici-pating, that something very bad is going to happen, and while he is waiting for it to happen, the waiting and uncertainty becomes almost unbearable. This is why Medorrhinums absolutely hate waiting for anything, because even while waiting for something good, anxiety is still going to be there until the outcome becomes certain.
However, it isn’t just someone’s impending death that will trigger Medor-rhinum’s core fears. The same thing also happens if anyone, whom he is close to, comes down with some kind of serious or possibly fatal disease. He immediately suffers from anticipation anxiety about the future, both for the person who is sick, and for himself. This issue is also easily triggered if one of his family members is away from home and doesn’t come back at a pre-determined time.
The anxiety is always worse if an actual time has been set because if the person doesn’t show up on time, Medorrhinum is convinced that something horrible must have happened to him, and he can‘t relax until the person actually shows up.
The main reason why someone’s impending illness or death affects Me-dorrhinum so much is that he has major issues about responsibility. He is basically an independent type who doesn’t like anyone telling him what to do, so he has an aversion to responsibility and tries to avoid it at any cost. Because of this aversion, his greatest challenge in life is to overcome this issue and basi-cally “grow up.” Since spiritual growth and maturity always happen as a result of overcoming various fears, challenges and weaknesses, it is likely that Medor-rhinum will have to take on a position of responsibility at some point in his life, whether he likes it or not. Therefore, it is very possible that the person, who is seriously sick or dying, is Medorrhinum’s parent, caretaker, or boss. Most likely, he is someone in a position of power, or authority, which Medorrhinum is ex-pected to take over after his death. Therefore, Medorrhinum’s main lesson in life has to do with finding a healthy balance between freedom and responsibility since you can’t really have one without the other.
The possibility of having to become more responsible fills Medorrhinum with anticipation anxiety and dread about how it is going to affect his life. His biggest fear is how the added responsibility will impact his desire for freedom, independence and spontaneity. At the same time, he doesn’t want anyone to know how insecure he feels, since he won‘t admit to anyone that he has a prob-lem with responsibility. He compensates, either by being egotistical, selfish, cruel and harsh, or by pretending to be very confident, in an effort to hide his inner weakness and postpone the need for immediate action.
Medorrhinum can also become jealous of anyone, who is better than he, or who threatens his future position, even though he doesn‘t really want the position in the first place. Or, perhaps he does want the position, but he may not feel quite ready for the level of commitment which is required. However, that doesn’t mean that he wants someone else to be in charge instead. This dilemma creates both confusion and anticipation anxiety in Medorrhinum, and the more he thinks about it, the worse he feels. He bites his fingers nervously, or he keeps washing his hands repeatedly because he feels dirty. Time passes so slowly that the waiting seems to last forever, and he simply can’t stand living in this kind of uncertainty.
When Medorrhinum has to wait for anything, especially something bad or uncomfortable, time stops and his mind seems to be doing the same. In this state, he can’t remember anything, even his own name. He can’t remember certain words while speaking, or what he was going to do, or what he just did.
He feels so restless that he has a hard time focusing his attention on anything.
Because his mind seems to go blank, he just can’t concentrate or think clearly.
He may feel so confused that he makes mistakes while speaking, and he often has a hard time even finishing his sentences. When someone asks him a ques-tion, he can hardly remember the quesques-tion, and often has to repeat it again before he can answer.
Because Medorrhinum lacks inner strength and confidence, he may also develop all kinds of fears. He is afraid he is going to be pursued or attacked from behind, and he is afraid of aloneness and misfortune. Because he doesn’t know what to do, or what is going to happen, the anticipation anxiety can become so intolerable that he fears going insane. At this point, he may be tempted to turn to religion and prayer out of despair.
If his king, boss, father or other family member does end up dying, it af-fects Medorrhinum very deeply. He cries, which makes him feel better, and he feels very sad, gloomy, melancholic, and maybe even suicidal. He doesn’t have any idea how to cope with the new situation, and he may feel doomed and full of cares and worries. He tends to blame himself and feels guilty for what has happened. If he becomes angry, he may start pulling his own hair, and there is sometimes a wild feeling in his head. He hates being in a state of uncertainty, and the big question is: “Now what?” He won’t feel any better until he has been able to find an answer which can relieve his unbearable anxiety about the unknown. (Interestingly, Medorrhinum’s mental or emotional symptoms always feel worse in the daytime and improve at night).
Medorrhinum’s clairvoyant quality tends to make him both superstitious and suspicious. He doesn’t know who he can trust, and he often develops oversensitivity to noise, as well as an aversion to being touched (he feels
“touchy”). On the mental/emotional level Medorrhinum’s touchiness manifests
as oversensitivity to any kind of critique or reproach. Even a mild scolding affects him deeply. He almost falls apart if someone is too harsh towards him, which is quite interesting, considering the fact that he himself often acts pretty harshly towards others. He just can‘t bear it if he is the one who is being criti-cized. Here, it is important to remember that Medorrhinum compensates for his inner sense of weakness with outer harshness. If, however, he is the one being reproached, he tends to fall apart because he isn’t good at covering up or pre-tending that things are all right. He doesn’t have the kind of self control that we see in Natrum Muriaticum, although he can be just as withdrawn and moody when it suits him.
If Medorrhinum can get over his depression without going insane or committing suicide, he’ll eventually try to figure out what he can do for himself, since doing something is better than just sitting there in limbo. He has plenty of ideas, but he doesn’t always carry them out well or follow through all the way.
He enjoys his ideas so much that he may even prefer to postpone everything and spend his time daydreaming instead, or he will go to the opposite extreme where he becomes so focused and industrious that he can turn into a worka-holic.
At work, Medorrhinum is usually conscientious about trifles and does the job well, but he tends to become irritable and impatient about little things, which makes it easy to mistake him for a Nux. He is always in a hurry and wants things to happen RIGHT NOW, since he absolutely hates waiting for anything. He likes working on his own, and he doesn’t like interruptions be-cause of his tendency to become distracted. Sometimes he can even be in so much of a hurry that he walks around in circles and accomplishes nothing.
Medorrhinums can also be extremely absent minded at times. Because he has no sense of time when he is deeply focused on the task at hand, he may com-pletely forget everything else, like upcoming appointments or even meal times.
However, at work Medorrhinum can be as fastidious, efficient or bossy as any Nux, but he is less reliable than a Nux because he doesn’t have the same stamina, persistence or tolerance for boring tasks. He tends to become easily distracted if something more interesting catches his attention, and when this happens, he often doesn‘t complete the task he is in the middle of. If he loses interest in what he is doing, he could even decide to drop the whole project or simply quit the job because he always feels tempted to go with the new rather than sticking with the old. This makes it a bit of a challenge to hire a Medor-rhinum. Although he can be super efficient and reliable one moment, he can be just as independent and unpredictable the next. He very much lives in the moment and doesn‘t like being tied down in any way. Medorrhinum is probably better off being self employed, since he needs to have enough freedom in his life that it doesn’t destroy his independence and spontaneity, and of course, he doesn‘t want his aversion to responsibility to be challenged!
It is also interesting that Medorrhinum is perfectly capable of being re-sponsible if he really wants to. He just drags his feet and dreads the idea of responsibility, either because he doubts himself or because he doesn’t like being tied down. He likes to be able to “go with the flow,“ whenever he wants to, without having to feel tied down. If, however, a situation should arise where someone is required to be in charge, he can easily rise to the challenge and take on the responsibility without too much trouble. His lack of confidence and general aversion to responsibility is the only thing that truly stands in his way…
