Description of Major
The program in Health Education is designed to prepare health education/promotion specialist to select, implement, and evaluate strategies, which are designed to promote individual and/or community health. Individuals are prepared to function as health educators in the settings of schools, governmental and tax supported agencies, and community agencies.
Prerequisite Coursework: School Teacher Certification 15 beyond other requirements; Community Health 6 hours beyond other requirements..
Teacher Preparation General Education: (36 hours minimum)

Admission Requirements to Major Program of Studies
Students seeking admission to teacher education must meet the following requirements:
1. meet the general criteria for transfer into an FSU degree‐granting program (see Bulletin), 2. complete Liberal Studies requirements or an A.A. degree with a grade of ʺC‐ʺ or higher in each freshman English and each basic mathematics course
3. complete the Health Education Program Prerequisites listed above 4. complete the Pre‐education core listed above
5. achieve a passing score on each section of the CLAST or general knowledge portion of FTCE 6. achieve an overall 2.5 GPA
7. Students are required to be fingerprinted and pass a security clearance prior to admission to the major program of studies.
A personal interview is recommended. Students should obtain certification in First Aid and in CPR prior to student teaching or community health field experience. NOTE: Program completion includes passing the basic skills, professional knowledge, and subject area tests that are required for teacher certification in the state of Florida. Certification to teach in Florida requires a minimum 2.5 GPA in the field of specialization.

Description of Major
The History major affords the student an opportunity to become familiar with the history of Western and World Civilization as well as the history of specialized regions, such as the United States, Europe, Latin America, the Mid‐East, Asia and Africa. The large number of elective hours provided in this curriculum permits the student to concentrate on particular historical eras, themes, or regions. The Department of History also participates in several interdepartmental curricula and the Honors Program.
Prerequisite Coursework:
Students are encouraged to complete the following courses required for the bachelor’s degree. Although the courses are not required for admission into this program, it is recommended that students take the lower level courses during the freshman and sophomore years.

Requirements for graduation in the College of Arts and Sciences include: a minimum of six hours each in written
communication, humanities, and natural science, and three hours each in history and mathematics. These should be completed as part of the general education/Liberal Studies program. In addition, students must complete a foreign language through the intermediate (2220 or equivalent) level.
Admission Requirements to Major Program of Studies
To be admitted, students must complete at least 52 hours of credit with an adjusted GPA of 2.0 on FSU coursework with at least half the required hours in Liberal Studies including freshman English and mathematics. In order to graduate, students must earn a minimum grade of C‐ or higher in major and minor coursework, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 within both the major and minor.
Major Program of Studies at FSU: 33 hours
33 hours are required (including two World History courses if no European test credit has been earned). At least 18 of these hours must be earned at FSU. Students with history test credit (American or European AP, IB, or CLEP) should contact Dr. Strait before taking any of the courses below.
