Description of Major
The undergraduate program in Early Childhood Education is a full time, four semester program that provides the student with both the academic coursework and the preschool and public school experience necessary to become a certified beginning teacher of children in pre‐kindergarten through third grade. All four semesters in the program allow the student to experience working with young children and their teachers. In addition to certain practicum and observation courses in early childhood situations, the program includes: teaching methods in reading and language arts, mathematics, science, social studies,
children’s literature and materials, and expressive arts. In addition to these curricular areas, emphasis is placed on educational foundations, child development and psychology, nutrition, families, communities, schools and other agencies. Florida

Admission Requirements to Major Program of Studies
This program is a Limited Access Teacher Education program and admits a limited number of students each year in the fall semester. Students seeking admission to this teacher education program must meet the following requirements:
1. meet the general criteria for transfer into an FSU degree‐granting program (see Bulletin),
2. complete Liberal Studies requirements or an A.A. degree with a grade of ʺC‐ʺ or higher in each freshman English and each basic mathematics course
3. complete the Pre‐education core listed above
4. achieve a passing score on each section of the CLAST or general knowledge section of the FTCE.
5. achieve an overall 2.5 GPA.
6. Students are required to be fingerprinted and pass a security clearance prior to admission to the major program of studies.
Applicants to Early Childhood Education are selected on the basis of four criteria: GPA, SAT/ACT scores, relevant experience, and professional promise. To be considered for admission, applicants must submit the following by March 15: 1) an application form (available in 215 Stone Building or call 850 644‐5458), 2) transcripts of previous coursework and documentation of test scores and GPA must be attached to application, 3) three reference forms, 4) a typed essay: your response to Teaching in a Changing World, 1 ½ pages, 5) a checklist of program requirements. An interview is given following submission of application.
In addition, students must be certified to upper division with all Liberal Studies finished or an AA Degree, and be admitted into Teacher Education (consult staff in 108 Stone for current requirements). In order to continue in the program, students must: 1) gain admission into teacher education by the end of the first term, 2) earn a C‐ or higher in each course required for the major, 3) maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 in all required major coursework, and 4) gain admission to student teaching at the appropriate time. Careful planning is necessary for timely completion of degree and certification requirements. Students are strongly encouraged to establish an early and continuing relationship with their advisor.
Major Program of Studies at FSU: 66 hours.
These courses are restricted to admitted early childhood education majors only and must be taken in sequenced
semester blocks. NOTE: Program completion includes passing the basic skills, professional knowledge, and subject area tests that are required for teacher certification in the state of Florida. Certification to teach in Florida requires a minimum 2.5 GPA in the field of specialization.

Description of Major
The Economics major is a superior liberal arts program that strives to make students aware of the critical issues in economics, to provide them with a basic understanding of the tools needed to analyze those issues, and to prepare them for (a) entry‐level positions in financial, managerial and administrative areas of the public and private sector, or (b) entry into graduate and professional schools of law, business, economics, and social sciences. Among the topics covered by the curriculum are the theory of markets and the price system, the organization of industries, labor supply and its uses, the commercial banking and credit system, government finance, the national income and its production and distribution, economic growth and
development, and international trade and finance. An internship program (ECO 4944 and ECO 4922) is available to qualified students.

Admission Requirements to Major Program of Studies:
Admission is based on availability of faculty and space, and upon academic performance. Students with 52 or more acceptable credit hours, both ECO 2013 and 2023 completed with a grade of “C” (2.0) or higher, and who are in good academic standing with the University will be given priority consideration for admission to this limited access major, but are not guaranteed admission to the program. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required for consideration.
Major Program of Studies at FSU: 36 or 39 hours
Students must complete ECO 2013 and ECO 2023, both with a grade of C or better, before declaring Economics as a major. All Majors must complete two of the three core courses by the end of the second term as a junior and all core courses by the end of the third term as a major. Economics majors must register for at least six hours of economics courses each term until major requirements are met. At least 15 hours in economics courses must be taken at FSU.
