Your final grade in each clinical course may be raised, a maximum of 1/3 of a letter grade, by gaining extra credit (EC) points. You must gain 6 EC to raise your grade 1/3 of a letter grade in that semester. The extra work is due by the last day in clinic. Extra credit can NOT be used once a student has received an "I" grade. You must tell the Program Director that you are turning in EC or grades, as they are, will be turned in immediately. Only the following list can be used, no substitutes or partial credit. Combinations or other activities may be developed with advanced approval of the Program Director. Extra credit may be carried over to another semester (except for EC from attendance) if it is not used.

These grade increases are to award exemplary behavior and professional attributes, and therefore, there are limitations on the application of the grade increase.

• All students: Grade increases will not be given if the clinical grade has been reduced for any reason.

• Clinical probation: Any student on clinical probation will be ineligible for a grade increase of any type.

• Incomplete: A student who has lower than a “C” at any site is not eligible for grade increases.

REVIEW OF PUBLISHED MATERIAL:

1 pt. Do a review of a current journal article or book chapter. The material must be OK'd in advance by the Program Director and must relate to Nuclear Medicine. It cannot be from required readings. Keep the review to 1-2 pages. The review must briefly summarize the article in the first half (1-3 paragraphs), then give your opinion as to the article's accuracy, thoroughness and usefulness to Nuclear Medicine in the second half. Your opinion section must include comparisons with how things are done at Program clinical sites, or create a new idea of your own applying article information, or interview a person (be sure to name them) who is knowledgeable on the topic and give their ideas. Also explain on what you based your opinion. The authors, title, journal, volume, date, and page numbers must appear at the top of the paper. Your review should be posted on canvas, along with a link to the full article or a pdf copy attached.

ATTENDANCE:

3 pts. Extra credit can be given if there are no absences or lateness incidents during the semester. No EC can be given in situations when an absence/lateness could not be helped and an appeal was granted to prevent grade reduction. This form of EC cannot be transferred to another semester if it is not used in the semester in which it was earned. ATTENDING EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS:

1 pt. Attend educational presentations or professional meetings related to Nuclear Medicine or Radiology (i.e., noon conference, or other lectures) that are not required for you to attend. Write a one page summary on each hour of lecture explaining what you learned from the presentation. The meeting name, lecture title, speaker’s name, and date of the

presentation should be at the top of your paper. This should be submitted on Canvas.

EMERGENCY “CALL” EXPERIENCE:

3 pts. Allow yourself to be called in, after regular clinic hours, to assist a technologist on “call” with an entire emergency “call” procedure. This must be in addition to the “call”

experience gained from getting an elective procedure in e-value. A signed note from the technologist stating the date and time when you helped with the “call” procedure is required or e-mail verification to the program director.

PRESENTING ARTIFACTS/CASES:

1 pt. At In-service present unusual artifacts or interesting cases not required, as an

assignment, elsewhere. They cannot come from a clinic’s established film files or cases. They must be in digital form such as in a Power Point slide and have the following information: Your name, date of study, hospital, study type (or type of artifact), patient history (if available) and reading (or explanation of artifacts) must be on the slide. Put the information on a second slide so that, when presented, students can guess at the cause of the problem before it is revealed. Cases must be approved and scheduled, in advance, by the Program Director. This can only be done in the spring semester.

RESEARCH:

6 pts. Have a research paper or creative project accepted for publication as one of the authors. An acceptance letter from the publisher/editor is required.

6 pts. Substantially help with another person’s research in your free time. It cannot be for research that was done for your paper in R410. You must contribute a minimum of 10 hours actively working on the research. A letter must be turned in from the researcher attesting to the hours spent and nature of your work. No more than 1 semester of extra credit can be earned this way.

ATTENDING FALL CCSNM ROAD SHOW:

3 pts. Attend this meeting on a Saturday in the Fall semester. A report will not be required but the student must pay the registration fee and attend the entire meeting to receive the full 5 points. A letter from the Program Director will be necessary when you pay your student registration fee. You may not use this for extra credit if you are using it to fulfill a

requirement for another class.

OTHER: Other opportunities for extra credit may develop and points will be determined as they occur.
