We are interested in the historical Jezebel and Ahab because a person with the Jezebel spirit will exhibit the characteristics of the historical Jezebel, and a person
with the Ahab spirit will manifest the nature of the historical Ahab. Jezebel and Ahab are of importance to us because they were worshippers of Babylonian gods and goddesses, so a study of their lives gives us insight as to how these spirits operate.
To understand Jezebel and Ahab, we need to go to first Kings chapter sixteen. Omri was the father of Ahab who ruled Israel before Ahab. He was the most evil king up to his day. First Kings 16:25 says, "But Omri wrought evil in the eyes of the LORD, and did worse than all that were before him." Ahab, however, was more than a chip off the old block. He outdid his father.
Verse thirty says, "And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him."
Ahab was the champion evil king. Why?
For one thing, the kings of Israel were supposed to marry Jewish women, but Ahab married Jezebel, the daughter of the king of Zidon who worshipped Baal.
You see, Jezebel was a beautiful woman and Ahab was a man of sexual lust. He was also self-centered. He knew what he wanted and no one was going to deny him, even God. Ahab took God lightly. Ahab not only married Jezebel, he worshipped her gods and served Baal (v. 31).
He built temples and altars to Baal, and built groves (v.
33). Ahab was a pushover for a pretty face.
Ahab men are like that. Sex and good looks mean more to them than God. They will reason away the commandments of God in order to justify indulging in their worldly pursuits. "God doesn´t mind us having sex;
after all, sex is a gift from God. Look at David, he had hundreds of wives and concubines." Ahab men love sex
and often delve into pornography, fornication, adultery, masturbation, and eventually different forms of perversion, depending on each individual´s taste and degree of control. Their desires for the things of the world far outweigh their concern for their own children.
Ahab even permitted child sacrifice in Israel.
In Ahab´s time, Hiel of Bethel rebuilt Jericho.
He laid its foundations at the cost of his firstborn son Abiram, and he set up its gates at the cost of his youngest son Segub, in accordance with the word of the LORD spoken by Joshua son of Nun.
(1 Kings 16:25) If his wife wants an abortion, Ahab will say, "It´s up to you," and then help with the arrangements.
Ahab was the king of Israel, but he refused responsibility. Ahab men are mostly irresponsible. They are spoiled, lazy, and slothful idolaters.
Jezebel was the head priestess of the cult of Ashtoreth. She not only worshipped Ashtoreth, she determined to annihilate all of God´s prophets. In 1 Kings chapter eighteen, we find that Jezebel and Ahab were looking for Elijah to kill him. They had already wiped out many of God´s prophets and leaders.
Babylon the great (Jezebel) has wiped out the prophets of God for centuries, even after Jesus ascended to heaven.
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with
great admiration.
(Rev. 17:6) Revelation 18:24 says, "And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth." She´s a murdering spirit with Death as her servant. She is trying to kill you, and she is trying to kill me.
In 1 Kings chapter twenty-one, Ahab coveted Naboth´s vineyard. Ahab had many vineyards and Naboth had only a tiny one. Ahab went to Naboth and asked to buy or trade for Naboth´s vineyard.
Naboth replied, "The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee" (v.
3). Naboth was a good man, and he knew he was not to give away an inheritance from God. But Ahab was greedy. Ahab went back to his palace upset, shut himself in his bedroom, laid himself on his bed, faced the wall, and refused to eat.
Ahab men are cry-babies and pouters when they cannot get what they want, and are weak and lazy.
However, Jezebel was smarter and more aggressive.
When she inquired what was the matter, Ahab lied to her by failing to mention that Naboth´s vineyard was an inheritance and could not be given to anyone outside the family (v. 6). Ahab men are liars.
Jezebel said, "Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel? arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite" (1 Kings 21:7). In other words, she put her husband down. "What kind of a king are you? Alright, don´t worry, I´ll get you the vineyard." Ahab had no
guts, so he let his wife do it. Jezebel wrote letters in Ahab´s name, sealed them with his seal, and sent them to various people with instructions to set Naboth up through false witnessing. Naboth was stoned to death.
When Jezebel announced that Naboth was dead, Ahab gleefully went to claim Naboth´s vineyard. Ahab men are users of women. They allow the women to lead and take responsibility because the women will get them what they want. Behind every Jezebel woman is an Ahab man, whether it is her husband, boyfriend, or father.
Some women will say to their husbands, "What kind of man are you? I´ll do it." Husbands give up and say,
"Go ahead, you do it!" Ahab willingly abdicated his throne to Jezebel. Jezebel women try to take illegal command wherever they work, live, or worship. They are the heads of the families, the high priest of the homes, and try to gain control in their local churches.
They have a murderous spirit and will kill their husbands and children spiritually if not physically.
Jezebel women will bear false witness when it is profitable, especially against church leaders in order to discredit them.
Ahab men are double-minded compromisers. In first Kings chapter twenty, the powerful Syrian army twice came against Israel. Both times a prophet of God came to Ahab and told him that God was going to give a mighty miracle to Ahab and defeat the Syrians. God indeed routed the Syrians twice. Still, Ahab did not return to worshipping God. Yet, he inquired of God´s prophets when he wanted help (1 Kings 22:6). He went
back and forth—truly a double-minded man. Ahab men go to church if it is politically correct or for personal gain, not because they love God. They witness God´s miracles and still refuse to come to the Lord.
Jezebel is a witch by definition and action.
Witchcraft is manipulation and control of others through demonic means. She seeks to control the minds of others through lies, complaining, threats, position, shame, pity, and whatever else she can use.
